The simple precision of these shifters is what keeps me from going to STI. The friction shifting for the front derrailluer is so much less hassle than trimming an indexed system. The indexed rear shifts flawlessly. Yes, you have to take your hand off the bars to shift. However, on long rides moving the hands off the bars relieves pressure reducing fatigue. They also look great on the bike and no shifter cables needed off the front of your handlebars. A really clean look.

I had bar end shifters on my LHT and did not like them as well.I had down tube shifters years ago and now I have them on my New Surly LHT I had to change a few things to make these work but it was worth it to me.Yes I would buy them again if needed to.
