they are an excellent buy, fit true to size and feel great .
I'll give these shoes 5 stars because of the low weight, quality build, nice fit, and good looks.
This shoe fit well and better than some of the more higher price tri shoes.

Product Description

Let's say that after years of road racing, you're attempting your first triathlon. Training for three disciplines is brutal on your body, but it's equally hard on your budget. As a result, you might be tempted to use your ultra-rigid, buckle-secured road shoes for the bike leg of the race. However, before you do, consider the comfort that you'll add, and the seconds that you'll subtract from your time, by investing in the Shimano SH-TR31 Shoes. They're lightweight, lightning-quick to pull on and adjust, and compliant enough to keep your feet fresh for your run without sacrificing any power transfer. It seems clichAA to say that races can be won and lost in the transition stages, but this often proves true. With a large pull tab at the heel and a single strap over the instep, the SH-TR31 is more akin to a slipper than a shoe. Additionally, the fact that the strap secures towards the inside of the foot allows you to hook the shoes up to your bike, jump into them, start pedaling, and then strap up--without having the strap crash into the spinning crankarms. Resist the temptation to scoff -- with practice, these are easy seconds to gain on the competition, and easy seconds are hard to come by over the course of countless kilometers of suffering. Shimano gave the TR31 shoes its normal last (or shape), ensuring that the fit is snug to reduce the possibility of hot spots. And the lightweight, fiberglass-reinforced polyamide sole transfers power to the pedals, without being so rigid that it causes numbness and discomfort that can escalate into serious pain when you start running. The upper of the TR31 is made of tough, stretch-resistant synthetic leather, and generous moisture-control mesh inserts provide plenty of breathability for hot summer days. Plush, seamless fabric lines the inside of the shoe to ensure sock-free comfort. The Shimano SH-TR31 Shoes are compatible with three-bolt cleat designs, as well as two-bolt SPD pedals when paired with Shimano's SM-SH40 adapter.

These shoes are great - good firm sole, has a drainage hole and breathable materials so it's comfortable to ride in these shoes without socks even with wet feet. I've rode in these for about 80 miles and they are very comfortable. In light of the fact that I haven't been wearing socks, I probably should have grabbed a size smaller, but that's my own fault.

One other feature that's nice is the velcro strap is that it's built to be re-sized - the end of the strap is sturdy, but segmented so you can chop off the extra part of the strap if you want to keep it from getting in the way of the crankset.

Shoes look as pictured, single wide velcro strap provides more than adequate closure and does not slip around on the pedals. I normally wear a US 13, and ordered a 12.5 conversion and do not have any problem with space. In fact, I would be interested in trying on a 12 with no sock. Clips are easy to bolt in.

I am new to cycling. Didn't know what to buy or what was good. Based on other reviews, price point, and the fact that I wanted to break away from more than just running into triathlons I settled on the Shimano SH-TR31. I have nothing to compare it to, but I can say that I am pleased with it. Very comfortable and with the Velcro strap you can put both on in lightning speed.

Very solid shoe. Very easy to get into, easy to get out of, and comfortable while you're in it. What more can you ask for?? Recommended purchase.

I am new to triathlon. I have been an endurance athlete for many years. I have done several 26.2 marathons, a few ultras, a few adventure races, mud runs, and a ton of MTB.

I NEVER owned clipless pedals before. I have never owned a road bike before unless you go back to 9th grade and my ancient 10 speed no name bike.

These are very easy in and out. I can get out of them while still riding on the bike and pedal on top of them up to T1.
They are true to size. Comfortable without socks and well vented.

I am sure I cannot appreciate the attributes of a shoe that costs 3X as much as this stage. In the mean time I am very happy to use these.

I also picked up the Shimano 105 pedals. I would prefer if they were weighted to stay in the upright position to make clipping in easier. But I am a newbie and I am sure I will get better as time goes on. I may try different pedals next season, BUT the shoes are keepers.

Shoes are plently stiff, fit really well, hold my foot tight and allow me to get in and out easy, had road shoes before that were high end but very slow in transition, was affraid these would be marginal for support, fit and comfort considering thier low price but honestly not sure why anyone would pay more, the do everything my $250 road shoes did only easier

I routinely ware 44 dress shoes. This one in 44 even with no sock was too small. Was going to try 45, but TR31 is a last-year model. Switched to 45 Pearl Izumi Men's Tri Fly IV.

Highly recommended for 1st time triathletes. The shoe drains water through the bottom and is very breathable in hot weather. The shoe fits true to the sizing chart.
