This product is exactly as described. A very fine product, easy to install if you have any mechanical ability at all. However if you're going to install this on a cruiser you'll need a longer shifter cable. The one supplied is 5 feet which is too short for most cruisers. Order the longer cable on line when you buy the wheel and you will save money. Local bike shops tend to rip you good on cables.

I ordered this to turn my fifty-year (plus) old Schwinn tandem into a three speed. Like one of the other guys in the review list I had to put the shifter on the back handlebars but it really works great. It has put new life into a bike that was being relegated to the ceiling hooks. One of my "best buys of the year"

I rec'd this conversion kit for my single speed Schwinn cruiser within only a few day's of ordering. It was packaged well with no damage and all of the pieces needed, instructions, etc.. were included. Prior to ordering this kit however I had called our local bike shop to ask in case we couldn't install this kit would they be able too and what the cost would be. They informed me yes they could install it and for only $30(labor fee). After having the kit laying around at home for 2 weeks I decided to take it to the bike shop. In about a 1/2 hour they had it installed, balanced and ready to ride. This conversion kit has made riding my single speed cruiser so much more enjoyable and easy! I would highly recommend this kit to anyone looking to upgrade their bike, the price here was the best I found anywhere by far at least $30-50 less including shipping.

This mounted up nicely and shifts very well. It is easy to adjust.
I turned and old schwinn world sport into a simple, zippy little bike. However my wheel may have come damaged, out of whack. It seems to have some excess friction even after meticulous adjusting of the cones. The brake is strong, but there is some excess noise in the gears from time to time (which the manual does say can happen .) However the manual also says the parts are not guaranteed under normal use. Overall a good deal if you are into 3 speeds w/ a coaster brake.

This is high quality stuff. It took me 45 minutes to convert an inexpensive aluminum beach cruiser to a sweet ride. I am mechanically inclined, so note that this isn't just a bolt on tweak. The rear sprocket supplied was larger than the existing one, and I decided to switch to the old sprocket instead of lengthening the chain.

The package deal with rim, coaster brake, and 3-speed shift is a great solution. The vendor was slow in shipping, and needs to learn how fast efficient service is very important. Most internet vendors ship orders within 3-4 days of ordering, mostly with free shipping. This vendor took their time just to ship(6 days), and order-to-receipt time was 8 days,...unacceptable in this competitive economy...I will not go to the vendor for any future purchases due to their poor customer service, and will not buy anything else thru Amazon.com because of the vendor's treatment.

26" wheel is NOT for MTB applications (?),

The 26" wheel misled me to think this was for mtn. bikes. Unfortunately the wheel was built around a hub/axle that is way too short for MTB applications. In addition to the thicker metal of most MTB dropouts, the non-turn washers which must be used for vertical dropouts are also thicker than road bike versions. I only used one of the two washers and there still wasn't enough axle space for the flange nut to thread on the non-drive side.
And it's not a OLD or dropout spacing issue (my frame was squeezed to fit flush up against the locknuts and no spacers were used). A reply from cust.service revealed that this is only for certain cruiser-style bike frames. Perhaps a company disclaimer would be beneficial? This 26" wheel is NOT for MTBs |
