4.0 out of 5 stars Good for light riding only, but a descent product
This product is easy to install, comes with good instructions, and is descent for light riding. For MTB, use this for small inclines and declines and some rough terrain or beach type use. Don't expect this to hold you up at all doing heavier Mountain Biking. This is on my entry level Schwinn bike from Target at 240 bucks. I have actually graduated from this, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Shimano RD-TX70 Tourney Rear Derailleur 6/7 Speed Direct Mount
This derailleur came on my daughter's bike and it bent and broke during the first couple of weeks she had the bike. I ordered this because it was a direct replacement (the model number of the original is hard to find, it's stamped into the back side of the housing). The derailleur was more difficult to install than I expected, but we did finally get it up and running...

I have actually graduated from this, and ripped 2 of these doing heavy mountain biking even tuned. The red gear is a cheaper plastic vs. the higher priced Derailleurs plastic. But don't be confused, even the 200+ Derailleurs use plastic on this gear, just a higher quality. Also, keep in mind to always keep this tuned. You should align it once a month or every other month depending upon how frequent you ride, and it only take 10 minutes to align it (instructions are included). Very easy to mount and align overall. Not a bad product for entry level light mountain biking.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a decent bike derailleur., June 9, 2011
This review is from: Shimano RD-TX71 Tourney 6/7-Speed Rear Derailleur, Mount Black (Sports)
This is an absolutely splendid Derailleur I purchased one as a replacement for the 24 year old rear derailleur on my Puegeot. If you're in a similar position as myself I highly recommend procuring one. A friend of mine is a bike shop mechanic and he once told me that new low end components are far better than old high end components. He's completely correct.

With that in mind here's the basics.
This derailleur is great. You can adjust the tension easily with a number two Phillips or common screwdriver. You can also use the same for adjusting the high and low. If you are purchasing this and need it today you should call your local shop first and see if they have one in stock typically their cost is 12ish dollars and they will usually sell you one for 17 to 23 bucks. (provided you are doing the install and they are not too crooked)
If this is the.

Installation:
If you do not have a master link in your chain (If you bought a bike from walmart and have never replaced the chain you probably do not) you will need a chain breaker to install this.
You may want to purchase an additional shifter cable if you are buying this product as it is easy to fray the old cable during the removal of your old derailler.
If you are upgrading from an older derailleur or a crummier model you may need to be ready to cut your cable housing to a different length or pick up some more cable housing from your local shop.
If you are upgrading a crappy nameless derailleur (such as those found on road masters) Make sure that you check to see if what you are replacing is the kind on a derailleur hanger or is a direct attachment. [...] use this document to compare what your exsisting one looks like and buy accordingly.
if you're not inclined to look at my generously provided link then direct attachment bolts to your frame and your rear axle will slide into one with a hanger.

This replaced the same derailleur on my wifes bike. Easy to put on but not easy to get gears shifting smoothly. But thats my fault. Will take to bike shop to dial it in. Reasonablly priced

I purchased the Shimano Tourney 6/7-Speed Rear Derailleur, Mount Black for a 21 speed that I've had for some years now. The derailleur works great and runs smooth. I've been trying it out for a few weeks now on some trails in Houston, and it has been functioning good so far. Overall, great product.

I installed this derailleur on my Scott bicycle. It has worked flawlessly, actually it is the quietest "transmission" I have ever used on any bicycle. Smooth shifting without any "rattling" back there. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a good commuting bike derailleur. I am even considering buying it for my other 3 bicycles.

Bought this because the original derailleur on my bike bent into the spokes after only 1 year of use. This one worked properly and was very cheap (the same one on another site was over $75).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, August 2, 2008
This review is from: Shimano RD-TX71 Tourney 6/7-Speed Rear Derailleur, Mount Black (Sports)
For a derailleur under $20, you cant expect any more than this. It shifts well, but has to be adjusted occasionally. I dont expect it to last very long, but I plan to replace the bike next year anyway.

Got the item very quickly, at a great price, and in great condition. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it would have been great to receive instructions on how to install it.
