5.0 out of 5 stars Great shoe, reasonably priced
Even those these are labeled as mountain biking shoes, I wear them nearly every day for my road bike trips (20-25 miles, typically). They're extremely comfortable for riding, and unlike road bike shoes they're good for walking around if you want to stop to get a cup of coffee or pop into a store.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shoe fell apart
Had this shoe about 1 year. The rubber (walking part) separated from the sole, otherwise no sign of wear. Great fit/feel, wish it lasted longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MTB kicks, April 14, 2010

I have a narrow ball so finding comfortable shoes is a major exercise. I drove to 12 bike stores in the SF South Bay Area, including all stores in Santa Cruz, trying on men's and women's shoes. Sadly most didn't stock my size or had very limited selection. What's up folks, not everyone has big feet! The Sidi Genius 5 fit but not in my price range. Finally I saw a pair of Shimano M086L's in my size! I put on both shoes and walked around the store acting like I was shopping for bike goodies but in reality wanted to feel the shoes. I knew right away these were it as they fit like a glove and were super comfortable. Mind you, I wasn't looking for a ratchet type shoe but the price was right [not Amazon as I picked up a new pair on sale for $89]. Got them home and installed Crank Bros cleats. Bike is on a trainer so I was able adjust the cleat positions properly. Tomorrow I ride, ride, ride.

Well, it's been a couple of weeks since I first posted this review and must say I am delighted with these Shimano's. If you wear men's street shoes in size 6.5 or 7, have a smaller ball, then by all means try these, that is if you can find them.

A word of advice; try on all shoes even from the same manufacturer as fit & feel changes by style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great shoe so far!, February 8, 2010

These are my first clipless shoes so I don't have a lot of perspective.

However I can tell you that I love these shoes, and that I wouldn't change a thing. They are light, inexpensive, durable, and comfortable. The ability the walk around due to the mtb sole is great. I don't know how the guys in road shoes do it. You never get off of your bike? Not even to go into the store for a drink?

I have 200 miles on mine so far and they have exceeded my expectations

I shopped around several brick-and-mortar stores for the right pair of cycling shoes that would work well for my spinning class and also for my road bike come warmer weather. The shoes fit well and the SPD clips I purchased at the bike shop locally were easy to install on the shoes. The mountain biking style allows me to walk safely and comfortably from the locker room to the spinning room because the clips are recessed. The price on Amazon made them affordable for me.

All in time. Excellent I use like MTB Shoe, the price is better. I live in Mexico and everybody was surprised because the price is very low to the original price. the confort and sensation is good. I Think it's a great deal and i'm thinking to buy another pair.
C A U T I O N: If is your first time be carefull because you can be hurt if you're not prepared to use. I has that bad experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shimano SH-M086 Mountain Bike Shoes, August 18, 2010
I am new to 'clipless' pedals because I could never find a pair large enough to fit. I wear running shoes that are either a US 15 or a 16 depending on brand & style. I often have trouble finding shoes, especially more niche/task-specific shoes such as these. Therefore, I was concerned about ordering shoes while anticipating the annoyance of waiting to receive them only to find that they didn't fit and then having to box them back up and send them back (perhaps with the pedals acquired at the same time). I referred to Shimano's sizing chart after lucking out with the discovery of the SH-M086 Mountain Bike Shoes in Euro size 52.

Naturally, a '52' is literally off of the Shimano sizing chart--therefore, as an approximation based on the chart pattern--I assumed that this shoe would be at least a US 15. I would guess that I am actually closer to a US 15.5, but these shoes turned out to be a perfect fit for me. I have a narrow foot relative to the length and these shoes were great as you can really crank the top ratchet-style fitting to accommodate your feet (especially while on the go).

-Secure fit via velcro and ratcheting straps
-MTB SPD cleat allows for easy walking with very little cleat 'click' as you step
-Simpler lower-profile shoe style functions well and looks good doing it on both a stripped-down urban single-gear and my beefier MTB

Glad I finally took the clip-less plunge!

3.0 out of 5 stars One size does not fit all:, August 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought the SH-M086L size 44 as this is the size I wear in my current shoe. Advice to individuals buying shoes online is to head out to a store and try on the specific shoe you're interested in prior to purchase. Sounds like a no brainer move, however, I missed this important step and then spent $25 sending the shoes back for refund.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Water Protection, November 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a Great Shoe, as all Shimano Shoes. Good construction, Freshness and durability.

But there's an Issue on this shoe. If you step on Water your foot gets Wet. I'm talking of Water about 1 INCH.

The problem is that the shoe brings a Sticket to avoid Flooding in your foot, but the stiker will eventually fail and the water will flood your foot. I would like to step in a puddle w/out Flooding.

If you are ok with that, this is your Shoe, is Light and Fresh with Strong Construction.

Get a Hug.
