5.0 out of 5 stars well worth it
After looking around, these seem to be the best value for $25, and they and feel solid for what you pay. I prefer these much more than the grip shifters sold at the same price. These are sold as the complete retail set, so you also get the shifter cables, cable end caps, and cable housings.

3.0 out of 5 stars good product
This is a quality product, I wouldn't use it for any competition races but it does the job for around town.

5.0 out of 5 stars Switch from Grip Shifters, January 18, 2008
By
AR HR Guy (Russellville, AR) - See all my reviews
I bought these to switch from the original grip shifters. Man was that a good decision ... smooth shifting, easy to install. I put them on my Mtn. Bike and it makes shifting on the rough trail much easier than twisting the grip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shifters by Shimano, August 8, 2009
By
This review is from: Shimano SL-MC40 STX/Alivio Rapidfire Plus 7-Speed Shifter Set (Sports)
I am a Shimano component person to begin with, so when I needed to replace the worn out non repairable shifters on my 21 speed 1990 GT Tallera I decided on these. These shifters came with new cables - nice surprise. If you are a novice working on bikes I highly recommend reading the instructions that came in the box. The instructions give clear directions on how to adjust the shifters to work with the older derailers. Also make sure you have good wire cutters to cut the ends of the wire. The only downfall is if you want to put them on a riser bar they will only go so far to where the bar bends. Otherwise I like the indicator feature letting you know what gear you are in so you don't have to look down at the gears to see which one you are in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shifters, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Shimano SL-MC40 STX/Alivio Rapidfire Plus 7-Speed Shifter Set (Sports)
I got these to replace some old-school thumb shifters. They work really well, and seem to be built well. Plus, they come with cables and housing. Great value, highly recommend if you only need 7 speed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shimano STX Alivio Shifter Ser, June 9, 2010

I had a local bicycle shop install these exact shifters on my bike about two years ago. Parts and labor cost over $125. When my daughter's bike started to have the same problems with its shifters I thought I would try the repair myself so I ordered these shifters from Amazon. The installation was simple. Before removing the original shifters I just noted which sprockets (front and rear) the chain was on and the approximate tension on each cable. I then set the new shift levers to the same sprocket numbers and swapped everything out. I tensioned each cable to what I thought the tension was on the original set up. Within 45 minutes I had everything changed out and there was no adjustment necessary. All gears shifted perfectly without any adjustment. The kit came with installation instructions if you would happen to run into any problems. Everything you need comes in the kit - shifters with cables attached, cable covers and tip covers. If you are having shifter problems, save yourself $100 or so by ordering this shifter kit and installing it yourself.

After my third GripShift broke, I decided to go back to Shimano Rapidfire. I can't afford original equipment shifters for my 25 yr. old Stumpjumper, which were Shimano Deore XT, so I decided to take a chance with these.

Pros:
- Very easy, straightforward installation.
- A quick and easy relearning curve from GripShift...use of these is intuitive.
- They work wonderfully and easily, with almost no missed shifts, even in tough going on rough surfaces or climbs.
- All parts, including great quality cables and cable housing, are included.
- They look well built and clean.
- Gear indicators are a great plus.

Cons:
- None so far after almost daily rides for two months.

I hope they'll last like my old Deore shifters. They look about the same.

Index shifters like these can only work as good as your derailers work. The stops on the front and rear derailers must be set properly and the cable tension must be set properly for these sifters to work properly. There are great on-line instructions on derailing adjusting.

Highly recommended!

I put this on my Cannondale 400. It fit well, and was easy to install. The pre-lubed cables are great.

Bought these for my 09 Giant Sedona to replace the twist shifter junk that come on the bike. These are remarkable and I love them way more than the SRAM trigger shifters on my 9 speed. These shifters are worth every penny and then some. Fast shipping, great product.
