5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to SM-SH51 cleats
These multi-release cleats are now my primary cleats.

If you don't know, shimano makes two types of SPD cleats -- single release clips (the "normal" SM-SH51 SPD cleats) and these multi-release SM-SH56 cleats.

With both types of cleats you have to twist your feet to unclip, but the single-release cleats only allow a twist to the side. These...

3.0 out of 5 stars does not include SPD nut, buy a set that does!
I am new to indoor cycling, and this was going to be my very first SPD cleat set to install. I bought a Shimono spd shoes, and was looking forward for this set to arrive. Little I know that there was an additional part that needed to be installed in the shoes (SPD nuts) for this set to work in the first place. I wish that was mentioned in the specs as I would have wanted...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to SM-SH51 cleats, June 27, 2011

These multi-release cleats are now my primary cleats.

If you don't know, shimano makes two types of SPD cleats -- single release clips (the "normal" SM-SH51 SPD cleats) and these multi-release SM-SH56 cleats.

With both types of cleats you have to twist your feet to unclip, but the single-release cleats only allow a twist to the side. These cleats allow a few more angles of release.

I started out with the SM-SH51 single-release cleats, and fell off my bike a number of times over the course of two years in unusual situations. It is a horrible feeling to find yourself falling and be unable to unclip the whole way down. In one case, I would have been run over if there had been any traffic in the lane next to me.

When I found out about these cleats, I ordered them to try out.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK. These cleats release in multiple directions and it's like they read your mind. When you want to unclip, you can and do.

I have had ZERO false releases, and have had several intentional releases in difficult situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have cleats! Way better than the single direction release!, August 29, 2011

I got these after getting fed up with the single direction cleats that came with my Shimano pedals. I am a pretty aggressive rider and there has been way too many times where I clipped out of my pedals too late and barely saved myself from disaster because I could only clip out in one direction. These cleats are a lifesaver!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, Well-Priced Cleats - Instruction Caution, December 19, 2011

Not much to say, it's a basic but effective cleat. Only caveat is that the instructions warn against over tightening. This is actually pretty hard to do by hand and much more of a risk, in my experience, is under tightening. On my first use, they were pretty tight but not cranked down -- due to my caution after reading the instructions. In fact, this allowed them to move around slightly, loosening them even more and, finally, popping one off stuck in the pedal. It was salvageable but it did scratch up the bottom of my brand new shoes quite a bit and releasing the cleat from the pedal was a big pain. So, don't let the instructions fool you, they need to be really tight. It would be pretty difficult for an average size/strength person to over tighten using a hand wrench.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice set of cleats, October 2, 2011

These are my primary cleats now..
I have tried SH51 which I had real big problems releasing my foot from the pedal..I ended up crashing 4 or 5 times...
Unlike those, these set of cleats are really good. They release pretty easily when you intend to.
But these do not get released unintentionally as mentioned in other reviews. You are still clipped to the pedal when you are hitting hard of elevations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cleats, May 5, 2011

SPD Cleats are excellent. This is what I learned on when I bought a used mountain bike. The new version of these cleats (Multi Release) are supposedly easier to unclip than the older version. Haven't had any problems either way. Solid lock-in. The have never popped out unintended, but more importantly are easy to get out of when stopping or crashing. I would recommend the SPD system to anybody, including riders who are using clipless pedals for the first time.

I was a little worried about using a multi release cleat, but with about 200 miles off road on these now all of my worries have gone away. This cleat stays locked into my XT pedals very well and comes out with out any problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value, November 8, 2010

These cleats worked well with my Merlin bike's Shimano SPD pedals. I am not a very experienced rider so I really liked the multi release mechanism allowing more ways to free up the feet in a hurry. The provided bolts seem to be fairly sturdy and the the cleats lock well with a good clicking sound. Good price at Amazon and a great product.

Little I know that there was an additional part that needed to be installed in the shoes (SPD nuts) for this set to work in the first place. I recommend you buy a set that has all the parts in them, specially if you are a beginner and don't have the nuts already. [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't even dare to buy something else!, April 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shimano SM-SH56 SPD Cleat Set (Sports)
I bought my cleapless shoes, and installed the included cleats, the shimano regular side release only cleat. Even though I practiced with the cleats, I fell 4 times in just 1 day.

I spend around $70 just in medicines from the injuries. I decided to order the multirelease Shimano SH56 cleats. And thank g-d the injuries were not really serious

I haven't had a single fall with these new cleats! Also I haven't had even 1 unintentional pedal release.

So far I simply can't find any idea why you should buy ANY other cleat. Don't take the risk of an injury. I've heard first hand horror stories about using cleats (those stories don't apply to these!)

Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Multi release release modes - works great, January 8, 2012

Love it. Even though the release is multi modes, it did not release my shoes until I twisted it off. Very easy to fit on and screws were included! Great value: the best.
