Great fishing reel, and you can't beat the price,

After my old reel broke from one day of chum and coho salmon fishing, I bought the Sienna 4000FD. It works great. Handles the bigger fish no problem (I have only used it for salmon fishing). You definitely can't beat the price for this quality of a reel. If you need a good spinning reel, and don't have a lot of money, buy this one.

Sienna 1000 size,

These are good reels for the money. They are smoother than they have a right to be at this price. Mostly they have some niceties missing that you'll get by spending 20 bucks more. By niceties I mean this reel has a hard plastic handle knob rather than rubber, a sticker on the spool indicating line capacities rather than being painted on and a cheaper paint job. The only thing I noticed different about mine and a more expensive Sonora while fishing was the slippery hard plastic handle knob. Also the drags are not particularly strong, but they are fairly smooth letting line out. In my experience, this is a good choice in reels unless you want to spend considerably more.

Great product for the money. To get a smoother reel you would need to spend about 3x more. I like fishing lightweight so the 1000 size is perfect for a 6' light rod. If your looking for a great rod look at Fenwick. The Eagle GT is great for the money as well but if you want something really nice look at the HMG. You could compre a Fenwick HMG to a St Croix and come out with the HMG on top. I bought the Eagle GT for this new reel and it is a great set-up for anything in a Georgia pond.

NICE REEL!,

I've got a couple of the 500FD ultralight versions, originally purchased for ice fishing perch, crappie and panfish. I've since upgraded them with 6 lb. fluorocarbon and use them for ice fishing in AK, where they handle hard charging 14-20" trout and arctic char with ease. They are as smooth as silk, especially the drag, which is adjusted through audible clicks and performs flawlessly. It's tough to find this level of quality at this price but Shimano managed it with this one! I just purchased a couple new ice fishing rods and will be outfitting them with the Sienna reels, too.

smooth but prone to birdsnesting,
This review is from: The Shimano Sienna Fd Spinning Reel (Misc.)
i tried the 1000fd with 4lb mono.
the reel unspools like a champ but this can also lead birdsnesting if not careful. the pickup trip pressure is hard and does not feel natural. the handle cranks nice and smooth and feels effortless. the front drag control is great and very responsive. |
