This is the best spinning reel, priced below $200, I have ever used. You should ignore the fact that this reel doesn't have vented spools and has fewer bearings than other reels in its price range. Those are cosmetic features often used by manufacturers to mask a general lack of quality. This reel is strong, quiet and reliable. It casts long, has perfect line lay and makes absolutely no rubbing noise during oscilation. Shimano reels are more durable than other brands I have used and are very easy to maintain, requiring only an occasional addition of a few drops of oil. This service is made even easier thanks to the lube port provided on this model. This is the smoothest, most silent, most durable and easy to maintain reel I have ever used and I would recommend it to anyone.

I have purchase a shakesphere reel and it took 1 month of fishing to destroy the reel, so i went and purchased the shimano symetre and this reel cast like a champ. This reel is heavy duty and very smooth. If you looking for a real reel get a shimano..... The Name Says It All.

The 2500 is smooth and just the right size to fish the Texas bays. Powerline braid works great on this reel.
