Great Chain,

This review is from: Shimano Ultegra CN-6600 10-Speed Chain (Sports)
I've used the CN-6600 chains for a long time and have always been pleased with their performance. However, on my rebuilt bike the new CN-6700 chain was installed. @ about 1,000 miles for no apparent reason a stiff link developed. In IMHO the bike comapnies are pushing the envelope toooooo far. Cutting the sides out of the plates of the links and hollow pins to make the chain a bit lighter. While the 6700 chain is asymetrical and supposed to shift better...I notice no difffrence in shifting from the excellent 6600 model. So as long as I can get my hands on the 6600 that's the chain I'll use. I ride about 6,000 miles a year and change chains every 2.000 miles.

I have purchased 4 Ultegra chains and have not had any problems putting them on or taking them off. They look good, work well, and strong. I would recommend this chain for any 10 (generic) speed bike. SHIMANO LIVES on bikes and fishing reels!

Oldie but goodie,

This review is from: Shimano Ultegra CN-6600 10-Speed Chain (Sports)
The Shimano CN 6600 10 speed drive chain predates the latest Ultegra level CN 6700 chain by one generation. It is a little heavier than the CN 6700 but I have seen breakeage problems with the newer version that I never saw on a CN 6600. I have observed instances of the newer chain's side plates cracking, some breaking off completely, and a chain failure that led to at least one crash. I have used the CN 6600 for years and thousands of miles of riding with no problems. It is very durable and utterly reliable provided that a mechanic follows the mounting instructions when installing the fastening pin. I usually ride 2000 to 3000 miles before the CN 6600 is worn to the point of replacement which is good for a 10 speed chain. Shifting gears has always been crisp and accurate throughout the life of the chain. I'll stick with the older chain until Shimano fixes the problems with its newer version.
