Vanessa Amorosi is ready to conquer the USA in a very big way. Where have you probably seen her before? Well, she performed the heart wrenching ballad "Heroes Live Forever" at the opening ceremonies to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, and her smash worldwide hit "Absolutely Everybody" at the closing ceremonies. Vanessa is not your typical teen singer. What you'll notice first about her is her very distinct vocal style. Miss Amorosi has the ability to pull you into a song and slam you into the ground with her vocal power. Blessed with a tremendous range, Vanessa belts notes effortlessly as she attempts to soar into the stratosphere. Once you hear Vanessa's high note at the end of Absolutely Everybody, the first single from her upcoming opus "The Power," you'll be hooked. Absolutely Everybody is a crowd pleasing song, with the kind of hands-in-the-air feel good chorus that is very reminiscent of Cher's "Believe." I've played this song for everyone I know, and not once did anyone walk away without singing the song all day long. The other track on this single, "Shine" was another massive hit for Vanessa (in Australia). Shine is a ballad that will put a smile on your face, and will have you humming along all summer long. Vanessa brings a new force to the dance world and commands your attention from the very first note. Keep your eyes and ears open for great new things to come from this talented artist (she co wrote many of the album's songs) who has already blown away the music scene in her homeland, Australia. It's great to see that Universal records took a chance on breaking this singer in the USA. Vanessa has finally arrived!

I own almost all of Amorosi's singles and albums so I picked this single up. It only has one version of each song: Shine, and Absolutely Everybody. They're great songs but you'd be better served getting the albums "The Power" and "Turn to Me." Amorosi is a great singer, you may remember her in the Sydney games singing "Heroes Live Forever" (a song now featured on "Turn to Me"). She takes writing credits on quite a few of her songs and they all suit her style. "Shine" is more of an inspirational ballad with the message of picking yourself up and shining in the world around you. "Absolutely Everybody" is considerably more upbeat. A very fun song about everybody needing everybody else. It's enough to make you imagine that the world isn't half bad. This would make a great gift for someone who you think will enjoy Amorosi's music but without the price tag of a full import cd or for yourself if you're unconvinced by sound clips and reviews about how great Amorosi is, pay the small price for this single and listen for yourself! She's really amazing and so much better than all the studio manufactured "pop" we have in the US at the moment. Also, this is a great gift for a friend or a sister, daughter, etc. that you think would like some inspiring or fun songs. If you enjoy this, buy her albums. You won't regret it.

I just visited Australia this past summer with about 37 other kids. Every morning on the bus we listened to "Shine" by Vanessa ...at first we were kind of like..."what?! what is this??" Morning after morning we listened...we started to like it....and we began to sing along. It is a great song and really will put a smile on your face and make you want to sing! I know when we got to New Zealand, we didn't have the tape anymore...to my surprise we actually missed listening to it every morning! take a chance...buy it...listen to it...love it! :)
