A new, young, potential classical pop singer,
By Bryan79 (Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shine (Audio CD)
It is my personal taste and opinion. What can you expect from this album? It is not Charlotte Church, not Sarah Brightman, not Celine Dion, but truly 100% Becky Taylor. I don't like to make comparison because every one is unique. All I can say is that Becky Taylor has a nice and unique voice. So unique that I like it so much, just like Josh Groban. For the first time I listen to it, I am hooked to it. I understand some people said her voice changed (matured) compared to the previous one. But you must understand she is now in the teenage age towards adult. The songs for this album is neither totally soprano nor pop. It is somewhere in between, I would say mixed. Again, I don't like to compare her to the other people who sung the same song. But overall, she really put in effort and trying to produce an album to appeal to many people. The 4 stars is really for that. "You raise me up" is very inspiring and it is very nice (I know you would say Josh Groban and Secret Garden sung it well). Well, Becky also did a great job on that song! All of my friends who listen to it likes it. It is a female version that is so special that I think everyone should listen to it ONCE!!! Other songs are nice too. Recommended: It is you (I have loved), the last words you said, (everything I do) i do it for you, from a distance, time. I think we should continue to support such a good singer. Thanks the record company and her parents to bring such a wonderful singer to this world. Finally, I saw some bright light to the new era of classical songs that are not too classical but not too pop. Thumbs up to Becky!

GREAT VOICE,
This review is from: Shine (Audio CD)
What a beautifull voice, and I thought she was well in her 20 somethings, but she is still 15 years old!!!!! Great song collection, but I think she is talented enough to sing her own songs. Her outstanding interpretation of Now we are free alone makes this a worth while album, but other outstanding songs are, Into white, Blue bird and Time, It is you and the Last word you said. The power of her outstanding voice can clearly be heard on Blue bird. She is most welcome in my music collection.

Becky's voice is so great that I can't believe she is a 15 year-old girl. I listen,I image, and I fall into the scenes of movies. The music makes me feel like a gypsy, go across mountains then feel peaceful and stronger. A great music anyway.

Natural, but disappointed,

I bought this album because I loved her last album "Dream comes true". I thought she is better than Charlotte Church because she used her voice naturally. At least she was not trying to sing Opera songs horribly as Charlotte Church. But surprisly and disappointedly "shine" is not the type of "dream comes true". Her voice appears to be a mature pop singer. And the tones she sings is different, not as "musical" as she was. Maybe it is because her voice change. I don't know, but i'd feel pity for losing a musical singer to listen to.

Becky Taylor Indeed Shines!,
This review is from: Shine (Audio CD)
I first fell in love with Becky Taylor's voice as a 12-year-old in her debut CD, "A Dream Come True." So, naturally, I was thrilled when she came out with her sophomore album, "Shine." When I found out - to my chagrin - that it was not being released in the U.S., I decided to take a gamble and pay more than I normally would for a CD by buying it online.
"Shine" was worth every penny I spent. Becky's pure, crystal clear voice is only paralleled by her impeccable diction. Her voice conveys a maturity that belies her 15 years. Also, Becky has a wide variety with her song choices. "You Raise Me Up" was - by far - my favorite track on the CD (I enjoyed it even more so than Josh Groban's rendition!). I also enjoyed "Windmills of Your Mind," "Everything I Do (I Do For You)," "Time," "The Bluebird" and "From a Distance." The only thing that kept me from rating this recording 5 stars was the track "Lacrima Madonna." I thought the rap accompaniment in the background detracted from Becky's vocals. Other than that, I found the album to be most delightful. If you enjoy (early) Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra or Sarah Brightman, then I would highly recommend Becky' s "Shine."
