A touching, rousing, genuinely excellent CD, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
I bought the original UK version of this CD some months back and, when I found the US version had a different tracklisting, I had to have that too. Eileen Rose is without doubt the finest new songwriter I've heard in years. Her lyrics can be poetic and earthy, funny and terribly sad, while her music (like all the best music) defies pigeonholing. There's definitely blues in there, and country, and swamp rock, and pop but, no matter which genres are colliding, it's all performed with such amazing panache you just go along for the ride. The brilliant melodies just keep on coming. Then there's the voice - part Steve Tyler, part Edith Piaf, incredibly strong, a rare character. If you like either of the above, or Stevie Nicks, or Kate Bush, or Tom Waits . . . actually, if you really like music you'll love this one. Take my word for it.

What a brilliant discovery!, May 11, 2001
By A Customer
I bought this on the grounds of some very strong reviews in the quality British press and what I can't believe is - being as every single track on the CD is superb - how come I've never heard of Eileen Rose before? NO ONE starts out this good. Where's she been hiding? What a fabulous mix of styles - blues, country, funky rock, even songs that sound like hymns - and what an incredible voice! Sorry to rave, but this one's definitely worth it. You HAVE to check it out.

Boston rocks again!, February 16, 2002
After seeing the Patriots at the Superbowl I didn't think I could feel any better about my hometown. Then I discovered Eileen Rose. I think she's the best songwriter to come out of Boston since Aimee Mann, and Shine Like Is Does is absolutely superb. Can't wait for the upcoming Long Shot Novena - it's sure to be one of the albums of 2002.
