Best Modern-Classical Music Experience I've ever had,
By Dana El-Faris (Kuwait) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I've watched this movie several times. I noticed that while watching it, you find yourself so wrapped up in the story that (in some scenes) you tend to miss the beauty that lies in the score (by Hirschfelder). This soundtrack captures it. After I listened to it I also got a pretty good idea of how Romantic-Piano sound like & I fell in love with it ever since. In addition, Helfgott's performance adds the final touch (it's like he & the piano are 1 inseparable unit); unlike many performers who did the same pieces.. It's true that the Rach-3 wasn't played completely throughout the movie (& soundtrack as well..Note that the total time of the whole piece exceeds 41 minutes !), but the soundtrack contains the elixir; excerpts from the finale,1st movement of the Rach-3 which will keep you marvel at the genius, power, and emotion that Rachmaninoff can express in his music. These are some of my favorites: -Raindrop Prelude (Chopin): extremely gentle, soothing, velvety piece -Letters To Katherine (Hirschfelder): One of the pieces that pass unnoticed while watching the movie. It made me buy the soundtrack. -Gloria, RV 589 (Vivaldi): Very Bright & cheerful. It starts with the 'Shining' of David Helfgott -Flight Of The Bumble Bee (Rimsky-Korsakov/Rachmaninoff): Helfgott plays this restless, shut-up-and-listen piece at his own pace. Simply genius. Hope you like them too :)

Simply Beautiful,
This review is from: Shine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The Shine soundtrack was a wonderful accompaniment to the movie, and it is a great addition to any classical music library. The music is both uplifting and empowering. But if you buy this CD for only one reason buy it for the magnificent rendition of Vivaldi's Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera by the angelic-sounding soparano Jane Edwards. Simply beautiful!

GREAT CD!,
This review is from: Shine: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The movie is what really inspired me to buy the soundtrack, as that is how it usually goes. I would say this cd is one of the best that I own. The sound is great and the variety is fantastic. I especially love Vivaldi:) However, the only thing i have to complain about is that they dont play the entire songs. I would of loved to here the rest of "prelude in c-sharp minor" (Rachmaninoff)...the thunderstorm backround added a most beautiful touch:)
