5.0 out of 5 stars another great title in the timeless shining force series, August 18, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shining Force CD (Video Game)
so im cruising amazon and i notice that only one other person has reviewed this game and honestly, i think it deserves more attention.

if you have played any of the other shining force titles you can expect the same sort of gameplay here that the previous titles offered with one big difference. there is no exploration. basically you are lead through the story from battlefield to battlefield and the freedom to run around and explore has been removed. while i was disappointed by this i dont feel that it takes too much away from the quality of the game. in fact, that was the only thing about the game i didnt really care for.

now, here are some good reasons to like this game. firstly, this game is a true sequel to the first shining force game and i love rpg sequels when done well. also, this game retains the tried and true battle system that brought shining force to the top of the srpg genre. i would say that the battles are very simillar to shining force 2 and that is very much a good thing.

another point id like to touch on was the fact that this game has 2 main story lines with 2 different heroes. each story is respectable in length and after completing each one you are able to unlock a 3rd "book". the 3rd book isnt very long but i thought it was even more fun that the previous 2 books mostly because you were able to access characters from books 1 and 2 to form your team, heroes included!

after completing the 3rd book you might think the game is over. youd be wrong. there is a secret item called the museum ticket obtainable in the game that unlocks a hidden battle, "the museum". here, you fight every boss you ever faced in the game in every chapter, all in one battle. unfortunately, you dont get to pick your team for this fight as the game forces you to take along certain companions. if you never used some of those characters in the previous books of the game you will find them behind your other teammates in xp level. even with those limitations i loved the museum and felt it was a nice way to end a great game.

shining force cd is a great title to pick up and play since it provides the great shining force gameplay with multiple storylines. while u may be disappointed that it lacks the chance to explore like you could in the other titles this is still an excellent srpg.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Strategy RPG Ever, April 30, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shining Force CD (Video Game)
If your looking for a great tactics game... look no further. The shining series is one of the best. The Sega CD version provides several different stories with great replay value. Experience this classic for yourselves before playing any newer strategy/tactics rpgs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Reason to Buy the Back Up Ram Cart!, June 14, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shining Force CD (Video Game)
To make it short and sweet, if you love Shining Force 1 & 2, and you want the good times to keep on rolling, well, then you need to get your hands on this game.

It was very recently that I played SF 1 & 2 for the first time, and those games left me jonesing for more Shining Force, so I picked up Shining Force CD, and I was not disappointed. I thought that the lack of exploration elements might annoy, but it made it more apparent to me what it is about SF that I enjoy the most - the battles. The battles are done to death in this game, and I absolutely love it.

For those interested in picking this up, don't forget to pick up the Back Up Ram Cart (basically a memory card for the Sega CD). Opening the 3rd leg of the game is impossible without it - the Sega CD doesn't carry enough memory to save the files necessary to complete this game. However, if there ever was a reason to buy the Back Up Ram Cart, well, this is it.
