Coryell Does It Again!,
By Charlie Dresser "Bjork's Lover" (chicago area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Shining Hour (Audio CD)
Wow, I recently got this cd and that was all I could say, wow. The selections on this cd are just perfect and complement Larry's sweet style. They have hard swinging tunes like Nefertiti and All The Things You Are, and then Larry does what some say he does best, with ballads like Apathy Rains and Yesterdays. There's also Floyd Gets A Gig, which is one of my personal favorites. Larry and the piano player (the great Kenny Barron) just click together. The hard groving bass playing of Buster Williams goes along just perfectly, and the spectacular drumming of Marvin "Smitty" Smith is just phenomanal. If I could give this more stars, believe me I would, but I'm only limited to 5, and with that, I give the biggest 5 that a cd could get! What a great cd! Larry Does It Again!

Nice straight-ahead jazz guitar,
By mark in ann arbor (Ann Arbor, MI United States) - See all my reviews

A very pleasant album of jazz standards by one of the most-overlooked guitar players of our generation. Always experimenting, forging new paths, this album finds Larry returning to his swinging jazz roots, playing with a stellar group--Kenny Barron on piano, Buster Williams on bass, and Marvin "Smitty" Smith on drums. If you like straight-ahead jazz guitar played with exquisite feel, you'll love this album. Highly recommended.
