I am a social worker who serves child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending caregivers. Most of the victims I see are or have been in counseling. Many still need help in working through the trauma of abuse. I have given many copies of "Shining Through" to these young ladies or their mothers. I have many books on recovering from sexual abuse but this one is the best book I've found for speaking to these young victims at their level of feeling and understanding. It is appropriate for the teen who tunes out authorities and for the girl who needs a tool for working through issues with her caregiver. I heartily recommend it.

As a clinical social worker in private practice I use this workbook often with preteens and teens working through sexual abuse trauma. It is nicely structured with written activities for the girls to do. I would recommend it for use in a therapy setting.
