While I have enjoyed Percy Slege's music in the past, I bought this cd because of one track, "Lonely Violin" written by the Brothers Gibb in the early 70's. This song was never released by the Bee Gees, but I have heard their version. For my money music from the Bee Gees cannot be beat, however, I really think Percy did a great job with this song. And after listening to all the tracks on the cd, I think this is going to be one that goes in my cd player over and over.

Beautiful, beautiful.

It's rare these days I feel inspired to take a new CD home, and even rarer that I love a new record from beginning to end.

Beautiful, soulful music sung by a man I want to hear so much more from. I've now got 10 more favorite songs to add to my all time list of favorites. "My Old Friend the Blues", "Road of No Return", "Big Blue Diamonds", and so many others. Can you wear out a CD? I might wear this one out from replaying it.

And it's not just me. I played this in my office and everyone loved it.

Enough for now, I'm going to go back and listen to this treasure again!

I read a review of this album in No Depression magazine and decided to give it a chance. To my ears it is one of the great CD'S of 2004 and I have passed the word on to several friends.Mr. Sledge is a true treasure and his interpretations of the songs on Shining Through the Rain are masterful and his backing band deserves a pat on the back too. A friend of mine played this for me and I had to run out and buy it. Its great, really soulful and interesting. Great voice that really resonates. A must buy for every Percy fan and/or anyone who just likes great music.

Oh man...Percy can still do it like very few can. Long since his greatest hits album he has been one of my favorite singers. When it comes to soul singing it doesn't get much better than Percy. I was surprised to find he's still recording so when i bought this Cd i was blown away by his soulful delivery and while time has passed us all by for great truthfully soul singers in exchange for mediocre talent this Cd shows us that they still have it but it is us who are missing out. It is hard to find a bad cut on this album and with his unique blend of horns and driving base behind him Percy will carry you on a soulful journey that transcends time on this masterful Cd. I am looking forward to purchasing Blue Night his other CD as soon as it is affordable. It is sad that people talking ryhmes in time to loud thumping base are selling millions of albums and real talent like Percy Sledge is tossed aside shows you how far we've digressed as a society. Go Percy you are the king of soul, something so few even know about anymore.

Best of everything....Percy's great voice along with splendid instrumentals, especially the great licks by the solo guitarist. The organ and the sweet sound of the violin on track 6 "A Lonely Violin"!

This a must for serious music lovers!!!!!!!!

It's been a long time since I have heard Percy Sledge and with this great new album he has come back into my life in a big way.
For me, the show stopper track is Big Blue Diamonds, with Paul Jones, one of the best things I've heard in a long time.
Also, the title track, Shining Through the Rain, it gives me a special feeling.
With music like this, Percy Sledge seems to be shining through time, making time beautiful.

Congratulations to Mr. Percy Sledge on keeping the soul and spirit of his soulful stylings alive and well. A job VERY well done!!!

It has been a long time since the music world has heard from Sledge, and it was worth the wait! The soulful voice of Sledge gives meaning to lyrics and recreates this genre for a whole new generation of music lovers-

This is that rarity, a perfect album: Not a bad song on it, with a great singer in great form, and perfect arrangements throughout. It has become one of my standbys; I carry it with me in the car at all times, and find myself reaching for it again and again. Even if all you know of Percy Sledge is "When a Man Loves a Woman," take a chance on this one -- you won't be disappointed!
