Best Value for your dollar.

Great traction on the road and packed dirt ok on gravel or loose dirt but you need to let some air out.

Great tire, rides well, good on dry or wet pavement.

Putting a set of these on my R1100GS was a revelation--they're better both on the street and in the dirt (much better off-road) than the Tourances they replaced. Also better than Anakees. As others have noted, they feel weirdly tippy for the first 100 miles or so, but after that they feel great.

The price you pay is in tread wear. I got 6500 out of my last rear Tourance, and after about 3000 the Shinko is close to toast. Half the price, half the life, I guess. I'll probably buy another one--the dirt performance is so much better that I can stomach changing tires often.

The Shinko 150/70-17 rear on my very loaded R1200 GS has survived for more than 5000 miles. I'd say fewer than 10% of those miles are gravel. Near the end of its life, the rubber has torn on the trailing edge of one tread block, exposing the tire carcass.

The tire grips gravel well and feels wonderful on the pavement. For the price, I recommend the tire only if you change it yourself. Otherwise, consider a more expensive tire that you'll pay to change less often. Also, this tire uses nylon belts -- not steel.

My ongoing tire log with Shinko and other tires, complete with milage and wear photos, is available on my website: [...]

This is my 5th tire model and brand on my 08 KLR. It is a solid performer on pavement and predictable of dirt roads and trails. I use my bike for commuting in town and bi weekly day rides on Calif fire roads. Very good wearing tire. I avoid mud and snow. For me there is no down side for this tire. If your looking for this style of tire, buy it. For utility and price point you can't go wrong.

This is my second rear with them...got over 5000 miles with them before picking up a nail...had probably about 500-1000 miles of tread left...they are not serious off road tires like Karoo's but they last twice as long...so there are trade off's with. They will not make you pucker when seriously leaning in a paved corner...they are also quiet when you're on the superslab doing 80+mph...

I put a set of these on my 01 Klr 650 and am very happy with their performance. I commute 160 miles a week and ride about 150 on the weekends, 50 or so of those on maintained and semi-primitive dirt roads. I've put around 3000 miles on the tires and have seen no signs of abnormal wear, in fact they are holding up quite well.
The handling characteristics of these tires are quite different form the stock Dunlops. On Asphalt, these tend to push the bike to lean when cornering which was a bit unnerving at first. This diminished after around 300 miles. The Shinkos grip well in corners and I noticed very little difference in handling in wet conditions. My experience on dirt is limited to this bike and these tires so I have little to compare against, but I do find myself riding a little faster and confidently with each ride. I'm sure a bit of this can be attributed to the tires. All in all I am very satisfied with my purchase of the Shinko 705's.

Good dual-sport rear tire, that leans toward street riding but can pull through the mud and dirt if necessary. Feels secure in the corners on road, and has worn more evenly than my last tire.

I have run these on my 06 Triumph Tiger and very satisfied. Its a bit more aggressive off road than the Anakee or Tourance but handles pavement almost as well. Before this tire tubeless riders either had to go with a 50/50 knobbie or a 90/10 Anakee or equivalent. You can air down and do fine in easy dirt and then air up and rail around the twisties. Some of the guys on heavier bikes like the GS1200's have had a problem with the extra weight causing the knobs to tear, but I wore mine down to nothing and no problems, and I pushed it pretty hard and sometimes loaded with gear. Expect 3-4000 miles of hard riding, maybe 6,000 if you take it fairly easy.

I have been running this tire on My V-Strom DL-1000 for over 7 years now and I average about 7,000 miles to a rear tire which is acceptable to me because I ride a 60/40 mix of paved & dirt roads so that works well for me. I also run this tire on the front of the Vee and average 12-13,000 miles on the front tire. These do great on all road surfaces and very well in rain on paved roads. This is not a mud tire nor does it like fine sand..
But as a general purpose tire for a Dual sport / Adventure touring motorcycle this is the best bang for the buck..
