I didnt beat this yet but its fun! It also requires back tracking and exploration when playing. You start out with shinobi the red ninja an can earn a pink ninja (never played her yet), Blue ninja (My favorite), Green ninja (sencond favorite) an yellow ninja (third favorite). Now I think the pink ninja will be better than shinobi but dont think you are gonna get through with just one ninja. I mean, sure you can have a main ninja you mostly use in battles (for me its blue) but you will need to swap to certain ninjas with certain abilities which only takes a sencond or so. Here is where the back tracking comes in, in the four stages (with the four imprisoned ninjas) there are four crystals that require certain ninjas to get (well to get past the obstacles (hint: From what i saw, you mainly need the blue an green ninjas to help you get crystals so u mite wanna go for em first; the two ninjas) after yoyu clear a stage, u fite a boss. an i didnt fite the last boss OR the pink ninja/crystal stage boss but of all the bosses, the blue ninja/crystal stage boss is the toughest but u can use ninjitsus which i saw useless in this particular shinobi game but if anything, use the green ninja an pink ninjas(i hav booklet to game so i know pink ninjas ninjitsu) magic. This is pretty neat an worth checkin out for those who own game gears or luv shinobi games. I never played shinobi 1 on game gear but i played revenge of shinobim (sega genesis) an shinobi 3 Return of ninja master (genesis) an own em (includin this game). Get ready to defeat the evil black ninja, choose the ninja that suits you most (there are exceptions of coarse), find secret passage ways to uncover crystals, defeat menacing bosses, an use your ninja skill in this ninja game with NINJA MAGIC!

UPDATE 1.0: Ok so ALL the ninjas (except red) will help u get crystals cuz i looked in the booklet an saw special techniques on some ninjas. Ill special powers from the other ninjas when i need to. Here are the abilities for those who dont know.

Red Ninja aka Joe Musashi aka shinobi
Weapon:Katana- close range but does alot of damage
ninjutsu: teleport- u know wen before u enter a boss room, u find a box with an arrow pointing down? ya wen in a fite, use teleport to retreat there)
Special technique: none (boohoo)

Blue ninja
Weapon: chain- attacks from far distance an comes back. When u see a circle rite below the roof, u can hit it an swing across! u need to do this to get crystals.
Ninjutsu: Whirlwind- you can turn into a tornado an spin. Oh an it kills enemies too!
Special technique: none (the swinging is sorta it)

Yellow ninja
Weapon: Star- Similar to blue ninjas weapon in the way it comes back to u but u can also throw it upwards!
Ninjutsu: Lightning- summon a barrier of lightning to protect u. after u get hit for a while, it disapears...easy come easy go...

Special Technique: water walk- Thats rite! water kills other ninjas but not this one! this will definitaly be useful on your journey.

Pink Ninja
Weapon: bombs- when u throw them, they go slantly down, then they go boom...ya...
Ninjutsu: light- there is a level (or two) that goes black in some areas. use this an it lightens up (it wont go black as long as you are in that area).
Special technique- spiderwalk- if you go under a ceiling (that you can reach) then hold the up button, then hold the a button (jump button) an as long as you hold the a button (when you get on u can let go of up button) then u will be in a crouching posistion on the ceiling an can move on! this is required for tight areas...

Green Ninja
Weapon: shurikin/ninja star- it says its a surikin but looks like a ninja star (smaller than yellow ninjas weapon) an if u played other shinobi games, you will be right at home with this! for new players, you can throw surikins (im gonna call em that) an they dont come back to you but there is an unlimited amount! this is the weakest weapon though.
Ninjutsu: earthqauke- this causes an earthquake an does alot of damage to enemies an if not all then most should die. This also will help you in the evil fortress (last level) to save your life, an it will help you find something useful to stay alive in another level (hint hint)....
Special technique: double jump- while jumping, if u time rite an press jump again, you will double jump! Not only will this help you find crystals by getting over big obstacles, but on yor sencond jump, you can lash out surikins by pressin attack button!

UPDATE 1.1

Ok so i did another update. I finally beat the game (without cheating) as well as getting all health bars (simple) an i dont feel like gettin shinobi on game gear cuz im well happy with this! Man i cant believe im the only reviewer here!Well for those who saw this, hope this makes ya wanna get out your game gear (or buy one) an get a copy of shinobi II (or if you have one play it!)! if you cant find this game (which you likely wont) then get this off of amazon.com (although i got mine off of ebay). Cuz man this is STILL fun just like when the first time i played it!
