This 5 disc DVD player is the cheapest 5 disc dvd player I could find and am keeping it real by not expecting too much out of it. It was $54 dollars including shipping so it was a great deal, now lets see if it lasts over a year. I have never heard of Shinshonic before but I have had plenty of other named brand items give out on me from 3 month to almost a year (Sony, Panasonic ect... very frustrating!). I guess it's kind of my fault for not getting some kind of manufacturers refund on them, hey what can I say...I'm busy, lazy, whatever. We have educational DVDs we show our daughter almost everyday so we use this player a lot. I have had the player for a month or so and it works great so far. With Amazon's great no hassle returns within a month I didn't think we could lose too much at $54s. I gave this player 4 stars because it reminds me of an 80s tape player. It's a bit thicker than most standard players, the remote control has a second or two delay, and it makes a little more noise than most standard dvd players do while it's changing discs. All in all these little quarks don't bother me. I will be happy if this thing lasts more than a year.

This machine is great, considering the price. I expected something I could balance on one finger. but it has a strong, sturdy cabinet, simple and easy remote, and responds quickly to the remote. No bells and whistles, but if all you want is to sit down and watch an entire season of Superman, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Murder She Wrote, then I highly recommend this machine.Swopes

I am very pleased with my dvd player. True it's not as streamline as most dvd players even as much as the 5 disc player I had 6 years ago. But that was not important to me.But it was well worth and at a great price and it suits my need. Would I buy it again? Yes I would.

When I purchased the Shinsonic 5 Disc DVD Player, I expected to receive a less than average DVD Player because of the low purchase price. Not only did I received the player quickly, but it operates easily and has a great playback picture. This item is well worth the money.

I am not satisfied with this product. It came a a very good prioce however the memory feature, i.e.; if you're playing one disc and you change to another disc, this player will not remember the stopping point of the lst disc, as a result, you will have to start the disc all over again. It also "freeses" at time as a matter of fact, all of the time. You have to acrtually unplug it for it to began functioning properly again. These are the main problems that I'm having wiht this product & I plan on sending it back to Amazon or whoever next week.

THIS ITEM IS BEYOND CHEAP! I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE IT 3 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING IT DEC 2,2010 AND EITHER TIME IT FAILED TO WORK. I HAVE LOADED ALL 5 TRAYS YET UPON TRYING TO PLAY,IT TELLS ME NO DISCS ARE LOADED PLEASE INSERT. I HAVE PLUGGED AND UNPLUGGED SEVERAL TIMES TO GIVE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AND IT WAS POINTLESS! UPON RECIEVING AND OPENING YES YOU HAVE A NICE NEW SHINY LOOKING DEVICE IN FRONT ON YOU. OF COURSE YOU CANT EXPECT MUCH OUT OF IT BEING 59.00 AND ALL BUT IM SURE WE ALL AT LEAST EXPECT IT TO PLAY. I WOULDNT ADVISE ANYONE TO WASTE MONEY ON THIS ITEM,AND ITS GOOD TO TRUST ALL REVIEWS NOT JUST THE GOOD ONES.

For the price, it works. I bought 5 of these as future backups since it is getting very difficult to find multiple DVD changer/players. I wanted to have a 10 year supply to fall back on since the one I liked went bad and there is no decent replacement available for standard DVD's.This is a true dinosaur which looks and functions as if it was built in the very early 90's. It is a huge, oversized unit. Twice as tall and twice as large as anything else on the market. This is bigger than the VHS machines. I know because I have it sitting on top of two VHS DVD combo units and it overwhelms them. This DVD changer makes the most awful groaning and mechanical noises when it is changing from one disc to the next... but it gets the job done. I would not recommend using it in the bedroom when someone is sleeping since the gears and motors make so much noise. I'm not exaggerating about the amount of noise it makes. It sounds like the gears on the older VHS units. As an electrical engineer, I get a laugh out of the antiquated technology of this unit. It reminds me of an old BETA tape player I bought in 84 which weighed a ton and had very crude controls like this unit. It is truly big, clunky and noisy. The menu is even cruder. Again, it reminds me of my 84 Beta machine. A simple blue screen with a list like something produced from GW Basic on Dos 1.01... oh yes... I remember those days... so take my word for it. This is your very basic of basic machines using antiquated technology. The remote is twice as thick as it needs to be with 10 times too many buttons which are hard to read without a magnifier. The number of buttons is to make up for the machine's lack of menus. This machine operates on an analog basis rather than a digital or programming basis. But the remote is so thick it is uncomfortable to handle. However, this DVD player does work and it is very inexpensive. It smelled like burning resistors when I unpacked it. I suspect it was assembled in some 3rd world country using some old expired patent. They probably had a few units which burned up on site from power surges from whatever 3rd world location which assembled it... which caused the burning smell to be embedded in the units and packaging. But again, it does the job and is low cost. Considering that it is getting harder to obtain multiple DVD changers for plain DVD's which will operate on a normal TV... if you are not picky about the technology and the awful noises it makes when changing discs, it will do the job. You can put in the 5 DVD's and watch them. You can even see which DVD is running because there is a separate lighted button on the front to show which DVD is playing. However, if you are the kind who wants the latest technology and streamlined systems... you will hate this. So save yourself the aggravation and look for something more expensive. You are most definitely getting what you are paying for with this oversized, analog, DVD player... 5 disc changer. Don't expect it to be more than it is. It does the job. I don't know how long it will last... but keep in mind, for the price of one expensive unit... you can afford to buy 5 of these noisy clunkers and have plenty to spare long after they stop building these types of DVD players... especially when you have as much money invested in DVD's as I do. I have no plans to change to blue ray or HD... ever. So, I'm stocking up on what I can get to ensure that I never run out of players for my sizeable library of movies. It also is a good buy if you can't afford the fancy models as long as you don't have high expectations.

Works great. Has a great feature I really like, a quick skip back for a replay much the same as a dvr. My real disappointment is that once finishing a dvd it doesn't automatically skip to the next dvd. I hoped that it would because I want to use it in my waiting room and continuously play all 5 dvds. That's the only reason I can think of where you need a multidisc unit. It also does skip on some of my dvd's that I recorded from my computer. For me it's not exactly what I wanted but from someone who only plays retail movies and doesn't care about continuous play I'd say it's a good buy.
