My first introduction to American Speedway was when I saw them open for The Supersuckers at The Note in West Chester, PA some time last summer. I dug the show, but for some reason I was slow getting around to getting any of their material. 6+ months later, I finially picked up "Ship Of Fools" and I regret waiting that long.

After my first listen to "Ship Of Fools" I was blown away. I think I listened to the album over a dozen times within the first week of owning it. The entire album is balls-to-the-wall rock without any low point or a single track that I don't like. Every song is full of energy, well crafted, super tight, and well... awesome!

I guess I'm just as not as good at keeping up with new music in as i get older. After listening to this album, I looked up and found out their next album is due out soon. You can bet your bottom I'll be picking that up asap! And hopefully getting out to seem them live again.

Bottom line - get this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars American Speedway - 'Ship Of Fools' (Prophase), August 10, 2011
This review is from: Ship of Fools (Audio CD)
I gave this CD a four-star rating because I thought that much like the band's second effort 'A Bigger Boat' (see my review) is a good piece of alternative punk, in it's own right. 'Ship Of Fools', American Speedway's first disc has been highly recommended by some for old school Ramones fans. Noteworthy tracks include "Far Behind" (should be a hit on college radio stations - it's been suggested this tune borrows the guitar riff from The Stooges "No Fun" and take it a step further), "Don't Tread On Me", the powerful "Make Some Noise" and "Watch Your Step". Honestly, how can this four-piece go wrong?

Saw these dudes open for the Koffin Kats recently. This band was easily the best band of the night. Bought the 12" version of the record. Some of the most refreshing jams i've heard in the punk rock scene in a long time. This album will make you want to snort coke and drink whiskey all night!
