4.0 out of 5 stars Hot page turner
This book truly was well done. The parallel story of the submarine's excapades in 1943 were interwoven beautifully into the modern day discovery of the sub. It took a long time for them to actually enter the sub after its discovery 60 years later, but the suspense did build and no part of the story was boring. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. When I'm...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, powerful!, April 20, 2004

This was great! Alton Gansky is right up there with the greats, Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and so on. What made this a plus book for me was, I love submarine stuff! Right on, brother!

Join retired Naval Captain, J.D. Stanton as he is called to investigate what looks to be a ghost ship. And it is a WWII sub at that! I like the demeanor of Stanton throughout the entire book. He's cool, calm under pressure, and collected. And he is most certainly a leader.

On the other side of things is a German with his own agenda who believes in neo-nazism. This book is about a quest for power and a test of one's faith. Lt. Donna Wilcox plays a very important role in this work by Gansky, and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into his stuff.

On a closing note, I loved the verse that really hit home, it is an oldie, but goodie. "Greater is He that is in me, that him that is in the world!" AMEN! I can't wait to read more by Alton Gansky!! Atta-boy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gansky's Gift, April 6, 2000

I have this habit of buying a book for a friend or family member, then opening to the first page and getting hooked. That was Gansky's gift to me. His writing was tight, pulling me along into the questions regarding the mysterious submarine. He added a Christian message without letting it overwhelm the plot. The characters were well-drawn, though not with much depth. I'll look forward to learning more about them in upcoming books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Blend of Suspense and Horror in a Christian Worldview, January 30, 2000
Breaking all the traditional molds which is today called Christian fiction, Gansky has written a truly gripping novel that combines WWII submarines, occult archeology and Christian theology. He handles the transition between the two story lines very well, bouncing us back and forth between the doomed sub's final Atlantic voyage and the Navy's modern-day attempts to discover how it washed up on a California shore 50 years later. There are some memorable characters such as J. D. Stanton, the main protagonist and his assistant who struggles with her fears as well as the captain of the submarine. This is a good book for those who think Christian-based fiction is often too syrupy or too soft for general audiences.

I didn't have a book to read-this is a bad thing-I bought this book because of the cover, I love submarines. I got it in the mail a few days later and then read the back. A Babtist Pastor wrote it hmmmm. I thought well, I bought it and will give it a try. WOW I thought the book was great! since after reading this book I have read many of his books and would buy more by the authors name only Thanks for the sleepless nights.

4.0 out of 5 stars "A Ship Possessed" is a good read on a dark, stormy night., March 17, 1999
By

This is my first book by Alton Gansky but it will not be my last! "A Ship Possessed" is a good mystery of how a WWII Gato submarine could turn up on a California beach 50 years after disappearing but not showing any signs of age. Gansky creates and fleshes out his characters to where they are believable as people while weaving in a credible story of angels and demons. From the first page to the last, this is a good book to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I give this book "2 Thumbs Up!", February 25, 2000

This book is both riveting and spooky. I love good mystery books and now this is one of my favorite. It's nice to find a great Christian mystery novel with a exciting story line. If you haven't read this book yet and your looking for a Christian Mystery, I definately will suggest this one. This is the kind of book that once you have started to read it, you can't set it down. I purchased this book from my Christian school book fair. Personally, I can't wait to read the next book in the series titled,"Vanished". Hope u enjoy this book as much as I did. God Bless You (John 3:16)

4.0 out of 5 stars It Might Be On the Unrealistic Side, November 18, 2001

But that's how mystery should be written. Fear is a wonderful weapon the enemy uses. Look how well he used it against Lt.Donna Wilcox and we Christians, with great success. I had a hard time putting the book down once all heck broke loose. The ending seemed a little "out there", but what the hey, it still was a good book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nappaland.com Review, December 31, 2006

Let's say you're looking to kill about 15 minutes before you go to bed tonight. If that's the case, then Alton Gansky's gripping thriller, A Ship Possessed is definitely NOT what you want to pick up. On the other hand, if perhaps you want a reason to stay awake all night, Gansky's novel is a perfect choice. That's because once you start it, you won't be able to put this page-turner down.
The first in the "J.D. Stanton Mysteries" series, A Ship Possessed centers around one great mystery: a W.W.II Allied submarine that has inexplicably appeared on the beaches of San Diego. Looking in mint condition, yet seemingly empty, the puzzle of the sub is curious enough for the Navy to call Captain Stanton out of retirement to investigate.
That's when strange things start to happen. Wretched, inhuman groans emanate from inside the sub. The propellers unexpectedly come to life, then lock into position again. And Stanton's assistant, Lieutenant Donna Wilcox, seems to be losing her mind with wild hallucinations...Or is she? That's the question J.D. Stanton must solve--before it's too late.
Writing in the other-worldly style of Frank Peretti, and masterfully telling the tales of two different time periods, Gansky has taken the topic of spiritual activity in everyday matters and created a fresh, spine-tingling adventure for brave readers of Christian fiction everywhere. So next time you're scheduled for an all-nighter, take along A Ship Possessed to keep you awake...If you dare!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Read This Alone, June 29, 2000
I started this book at midnight and finished it at 2:30 AM. "A Ship Possessed" is gripping and the most frightening book I have read. (more so than the Left Behind Books) So scary that all the lights came on with me when I went downstairs. The plot was great and detailed.

The first thing I did after reading the book was grab my Bible and read some more. Can't wait to read the other book. "Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world"
