I've played ship simulator 2006, and for me as marine engineer is very good simulation with some real ship maneuvering characteristics, but the 2008 demo version is even better, with very good sever weather simulation and how the boat response on it. As I can se the buoyage system is now improved.
Excellent ship simulator.

finally a game the grown ups and young adults can enjoy. You have the chance to play with near real simulations under a number of variables. Until you get the hang of it, though, you feel like you need six hands.

I love good simulators of all kinds. It is a great way to experience things without a lot of trouble.
From a physics and virtual reality simulation point of view, this simulator is very realistic and artfully done. While it does lack some instrumentation detail, you get more than what you pay for in this simulation. I have been to Marcelles France to work on a ship there and I found the simulated harbor in this program to be very realistic and just the way I remember it from being there. It is just what I wanted and more. Ron in TAmpa

While this game is fun to play it has severe limitations. If you are looking to captain a ship from Point A to Point B on a global cruise this game will not do it for you. There are only about 15 or 20 harbors around the globe for you to sail and they are not connected. So if you want to go from New York to London forget it because in the game there is nothing between the two. Additionally, the graphics on this game are about ten years behind the high end games sold today. Also, while the cover artwork of this game deceptively resembles MS Flight Simulator's cover artwork, MS has NOTHING to do with this product. Do not expect a start to finish trip in this game like you have in any of the MS Flight Simulator versions. You are basically limited to sailing an ocean liner, tanker, or cruise and cargo ships up and down some harbor like New York. The missions prove to be the bright spot in this game. They are fun and interactive. But once you work your way through the missions there is nothing more the game will offer. Unlike MS Flight Simulator where player created trips are limitless, once the missions are complete in Ship Simulator the game has nothing to offer. The mouse and keyboard controls on the game are adequate but again there are quirks in the controls you won't find on high end games. I would expect to find this game in the bargain bin at the local Wal-Mart for $4.99.

This sim or game leaves at lot to be desired. Small selection of ships and small selection of places to visit. This is not a true sim like ms fsx. No internet support for downloads of other ships or scenery, as a might of fact i reather cruise the open seas in ms fsx. the waves action in this game is the only thing it has over fxs..other then that you can not navigate the real sea enviorment, just selected harbors..shame on vstep for this game that they call a ship simulator. you have to pay more bucks for additional add-on of ships and harbors..shame on you vstep

Ship Simulator for the Nautically Obsessed,

Ship Simulator is a decent product for a light-hearted simulation of powered ships. Using it, you can become the captain of a number of different vessels, including a supertanker, rescue vessel, various powerboats, and even the Titanic. Several world class harbors are accurately reproduced with realistic scenery and other boat traffic. The physics of powered boats are reasonably well done. A large number of missions take you from novice to expert ship driver.
There are no sailboats, alas, and the controls can be twitchy at high speeds. There is full support for keyboard, mouse, and joystick controls, and camera angles can be varied at will.

I think this game is awesome. I like the detail of the waves, and the water splashing on boards. However, I do think that they should have put a big cruise ship and a yacht and a fishing boat in the classic Ship Simulator 2008, instead of in an expansion pack (New Horizons) that costs and extra $48.00. Overall I think it is a good game though.

the graphics arent very good and the ship to shore radio is so distorted and accented that it is impossible to understand what is being said. The game can be fun, but if you are looking for an ocean going version of microsoft flight simulator this isn't it. It's not a lousy game, nor is it a great game, it's just okay.
