I pre-ordered last Friday with release date delivery. I went to see if it was "shipping soon" this morning, and saw that my estimated delivery time was 10/27. Nearly simultaneous to that, I heard my e-mail notification, and it was a message from Amazon saying that they could no longer honor release date delivery, and would be "upgraded" to free one day shipping. It would ship on the 26th and arrive on the 27th.
Not cool, Amazon. First the Dark Souls debacle and now this.
I must have sounded angrier than I actually am. I really don't care. I predicted things like this would happen though after what happened with Dark Souls, and I just hope that they are two isolated incidents, and not a growing trend.
Honestly, when you wait to the last minute, Amazon (or any other retailer) does not have enough lead time to buy ad stock copies of the game to cover your preorder. Naturally they are only going to have a limited number on hand and once those are gone, they cannot honor the release day shipping. It's first come, first served and you really have no one to blame but yourself for waiting until the last minute.
The fault does not go to the customer here, Amazon chose to offer release date shipping up until yesterday. They are the ones that know their stock and their shipping capability, not the customer. It's their responsibility to manage it.
Mine shipped from Kentucky at 10:00 PM (live in Bham, AL) Amazon about gave me a heart attack when I looked at orders from last 30 days and did not see BF3 in there. I had to select past 6 months to see it. Cannot wait!
