5.0 out of 5 stars A Review of U.S. Navy Ships and Coast Guard Cutters, June 29, 2000
This review is from: U.S. Navy Ships and Coast Guard Cutters (Naval Institute Book for Young Readers) (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent beginner's look into ships, life aboard them, and the men and women who serve on them. It details the major types of Naval and Coast Guard vessels from Aircraft Carriers, to Auxillary Ships, and High Endurance Cutters. The author draws on 34 years in the Navy to present often puzzling nautical and technical information into an easy-to-understand format. This book is written primarily for teenagers, but everyone who reads this book will enjoy it and learn from it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book for Junior High School students - but no diagrams., February 13, 2012

This review is from: U.S. Navy Ships and Coast Guard Cutters (Naval Institute Book for Young Readers) (Hardcover)
This book is for young readers. The photo size is misleading. Actual page with text is 5 x 7 (like a small picture frame size. ) Nice first step in Navy Ships, but no real detail - no diagrams, no sub-layer photographs, nothing from the insides of the ship, just arial shots of the ships at sea. No labels as to where the gun tanks are, where is the landing area on aircraft carrier, etc. You get the picture. So, this book is nice for young readers. Possibly Junior High School students, but not advanced enough for High School or Adults. Photos are in black and white. Very basic. Good first step.
