5.0 out of 5 stars A big improvement on previous album!!!
Well i was in the store today and i knew Silverstein was coming out with a new album so i picked it up and took a chance. I liked "When broken is Easily Fixed" and i absolutely loved "Discovering the waterfront". So i thought i would like there album before this one "Arrivals and Departures", but i was so wrong. I do not mind when a band want to sing more and believe me...

5.0 out of 5 stars A big improvement on previous album!!!, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Shipwreck in the Sand (Audio CD)
Well i was in the store today and i knew Silverstein was coming out with a new album so i picked it up and took a chance. I liked "When broken is Easily Fixed" and i absolutely loved "Discovering the waterfront". So i thought i would like there album before this one "Arrivals and Departures", but i was so wrong. I do not mind when a band want to sing more and believe me Shane can sing but the songs on "arrivals and departures" were so boring and had no energy to them. The songwriting was cliche and not very creative.

But it is safe to say Silverstein is back with this new album. I absolutely love the album. The songs are great and full of energy just like punk/screamo should be. It seems to me Shane has practiced on his screaming because it sounds a whole lot better on this album then it ever has, and you can feel his emotions through his screams like never before. His singing is as good as it always is. He truly is a good singer IMO.

So if you like a little more screaming and an album packed with emotions and energy pick this up you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best yet, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Shipwreck in the Sand (Audio CD)
Their first two albums were simply amazing and I was so excited when arrival and departures came out. However, I was completely let down. In no means was it a bad CD. It just felt like the band, abandoned their hardcore roots and opted for a more pop esque like album. Which made me skeptical about their new release.
But I think its safe to say Silverstein is back, better than ever. Though the songs on Shipwreck are not as memorable as the likes of Discovering the waterfront, smashed to pieces, or smile in your sleep the CD manages to deliver a overall quality beyond all their previous releases. From the Vocals to the music itself you can tell that they have matured. This is their most talented CD yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silverstein is back !, April 2, 2009
This review is from: Shipwreck in the Sand (Audio CD)
I first started out as a fan of Silverstein when "Discovering the Waterfront" came out. I fell in love with it right away and I couldn't put it down for weeks. Then came "Arrival's and Departures" which was Silverstein without the soul really. Their lyrics were very generic and Shane held back a lot of screaming and his voice just seemed to bland. It was an alright cd but not a Silverstein cd.

Now here comes "Shipwreck in the Sand." I preordered this with a t-shirt and poster and went all out. I tore open the packaging and started listening to it at work. Man, the first song really opens up the rest of the cd. It has that addicting chorus that Silverstein is really known for. This cd adds a lot more metal guitar and yet still retains some of its punkness in drums in there.

I found it really impressive that they were albe to feature different singers. The most impressive is Lights. I saw Lights in concert and she has a fantastic voice and her and Shane make such a perfect combo to end the album together. I'm already on my third play of this cd. The lyrics are such a step up to "Departures" and all around the music has a lot more soul and passion in it.

My favorite stand out tracks so far are pretty much all of them! If I had to pick they would be Vices, You're All I Have, and The End. This is the Silverstein we've been waiting for. Pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD!, March 31, 2009
By
This review is from: Shipwreck in the Sand (Audio CD)
This is a great CD. it is much better than "Arrivals & Departures." For starters, vocalist Shane Told must have worked on his screaming. There is more screaming in this record. His clean vocals are as great as always. He has put together a great vocal performance from start to finish. The lyrics on Arrivals were bland and cliche, the lyrics are much more powerful and much more meaningful. The guitar work is excellent. The entire band has stepped up in front of Shane. The drumming is much better than on Arrivals. They seemed to have mixed "When Broken is Easily Fixed" with "Discovering the Waterfront" to get this record.

Best song hands down is "A Great Fire." Screaming is awesome, melodic choruses, drumming is great.

I have always liked Silverstein's music but never considered any of their albums as a standout. That all changed with this album. The energy and emotion that is heard in this album makes for a great quality album that will have you feeling energized while you listen to it. This is by far their best album with Discovering the Waterfront as number 2. If you liked Discovering but was afraid after hearing their last album it is time to give them a try again and listen to this album. Standout tracks on this album include Vices, Born Dead, I am the Arsonist, and A Great Fire. Overall i would give this album a 9 out of 10.

Wow, after hearing a sampler cd including a song from Siverstein I decided to go out and purchase this cd. It has got to be the most beautiful yet intense cd I've heard in a while. Every song is amazing and will suck you right in with the first listen. Not only do the songs have heartfelt and meaningful lyrics, but their combined with amazing guitar playing, singing, and intense 'screaming' that all works together to create this amazing masterpiece. If you are a fan of this type of music definately buy this album, you won't be disappointed!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, August 14, 2009
By
"A Shipwreck in the Sand" is only the second Silverstein album I have listened to (Discovering the Waterfront being the only one prior to this) and I must say, it is quite good. Silverstein have a much more mature sound with this effort over DTWF and this album has some very solid tracks that get stuck in my head for quite some time after listening. "Vices" is definitely my favorite Silverstein track and one of those songs that is seared into your memory banks and you will find yourself singing long after the song is over.

Overall, this cd is worth picking up and a very good 2009 release.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is a masterpiece, July 3, 2009
This review is from: Shipwreck in the Sand (Audio CD)
I gotta chime in with another 5 star review. I'm not gonna bother saying which songs are the best, there's so many. The title track is my favorite, though. Every song is good, so far I haven't skipped any. I hope these guys gain popularity for this record because it's brilliant.
