The Shire Horse: A History of the Breed, the Society and the Men,

This review is from: The Shire Horse: A History of the Breed, the Society and the Men (Allen breed series) (Hardcover)
This book was a total disappointment. Published in 1976, it is very outdated. The information contained might be of interest to an historian, but for me, it was useless. The price is outrageous!

The author has an amazing amount of research in this book. It is an excellent read for any horseperson - but for Shire Horse enthusiasts it is a must! This is a BIG book - it starts way before the Shire was a breed, in the 11th Century. It continues all the way up to the 20th century; including information on breeding practices, relationships with other breeds, key people involved with the horses, and other pertinant information. There are also many excellent illlustrations.
