About the Author

Shirin Neshat was born in 1957 in Qazvin, Iran. As a teenager she went to study in the United States, studying art at the University of California at Berkeley during the Iranian Revolution. She has since relocated to New York, where she lives and works. Her work has been extensively exhibited internationally, and has been featured in the Whitney Biennial 2000, and she has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum, the Tate Gallery, London, and the Art Institue of Chicago.
