Author of the LEMONS TO LEMONADE Series of inspirational nonfiction.
A breast cancer diagnosis quickly forced a re-prioritization of my life's goals. I dumped the idea of climbing any ladder of success and, instead, focused on how I could make a positive difference in the world - and after much consideration, writing became my new platform.
I began writing about my own breast cancer journey. 'Losing the Girls - My Journey Through Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy and Beyond'. My objective was to tell an entertaining story with a healthy dose of education. Even though I had consulted medical experts, I stumbled upon the surgical technique of nipple-sparing mastectomy and vowed to educate other women in a way I hadn't been. With proactive awareness, women would be able to make fully informed decisions if the need ever arose.
Besides the entertaining and educational aspects, I wanted my story to give hope to others who might be affected by a breast cancer diagnosis. My experience had been a cliché. Cancer had truly changed my life for the better.
I followed up 'Losing the Girls' with 'The Road Paved in Pink - A Personal and Practical Guide for Breast Cancer Patients and Their Loved Ones', strictly an educational tool for newly diagnosed cases. This guide resulted from a calling to pay forward the goodness I'd received during my own breast cancer experience.
I've also created a proactive learning video to educate women about surgical options. Please check it out and pass it along - doing so may make a huge difference for someone you love. Follow the link: http://youtu.be/dhRnZVPodxY
The LEMONS TO LEMONADE Series is my latest project and I am thrilled to bring a series of inspirational books to a society deluged with negativity.
'Losing the Girls' is the first installment, followed by 'A Healing Haven - Saving Horses and Humans at RVR Horse Rescue'. The book is an amazing testament to the healing power of love and it shines a spotlight on a worthy organization pulling out all the stops to save animals in need. The third installment of the series is currently underway!
I'd love to see you on Facebook or you can subscribe to my website at http://shirleyalarie.com/ to receive my updates. I hope to see you there!
