Techniques in DETAIL,
By
This review is from: Shirtmaking Techniques (DVD)
This video is WELL WORTH EVERY cent. The techniques are VERY clear and UP CLOSE. He covers the techniques described in the book, but of course, watching them made them even more understandable. He shows you how to make a rolled hem and flat-felled seams using the special feet; constructing plackets, collar/stand, and cuffs with his special technique; sew symmetrical collar points; and topstitch fine details. His techniques are TOP QUALITY and he shows you EXACTLY how to do them; even a beginner should be able to follow them. Superb job! Thank you SO MUCH Mr. Coffin, for producing this!

This is coming from someone with zero experience behind a sewing machine. My interest started when I decided to re-upholster the interior of one of my cars. Since I now have a one year old son, I tried to find something that would take a little less time...and here we are.I took delivery of this DVD before the book (that this DVD is a companion to) and popped it into the DVD player immediately. I have always learned things better from trying them myself and this DVD gives you all of the tools you need to jump right in and practice all of the sewing techniques you will need to assemble your first dress (or other) shirt. As a matter of fact, I had not even taken delivery of my "shirt" sewing machine yet when I watched this video. If you are wondering if you should buy the video, I can't think of one reason not to...it is inexpensive, it is very well shot, easy to follow and gives you the confidence that you can accomplish any of the sewing techniques discussed in the book. Get both, you can't go wrong.

I never even knew there was a special foot for those tiny hems on shirts. The explainations are so clear for making custom shirts in this book that my sewing looks professional. I bought a second book and DVD as a gift too. AzGrandma

I have owned this video and the accompanying book for two years and have found them invaluable. It is great to be able to see the techniques in David's book demonstrated on the video. David is an excellent presenter and his construction techniques produce fantastic results.

This is the best DVD that I have ever owned. Mr. Coffin makes it so easy to sew a shirt and I'm using some of the methods on blouses. It's great, should be in every ones library.

This video demonstrates the techniques described in chapter 7 of Coffin's book "Shirtmaking." The content of the other chapters of the book are not covered, and the chapter 7 techniques would be difficult to duplicate just by looking at this video, so it is best to use it as a supplement to the book. Some things described in the book are made clearer by seeing the demonstrations in the video. The techniques demonstrated are for flat-felled seams (using the felling foot), the baby-hemmed seam (using the hemming foot), and the construction of collars and sleeve plackets, along with a few other things. The quality of the video is adequate but not Hollywood level. The sound level fluctuates a bit, and Mr. Coffin's hairstyle changes randomly; there is also a disappearing/reappearing zit on his right cheek, as well as a strange fork in his left eyebrow that shows up from time to time, indicating the lack of a continuity person during shooting. There are a few primitive but helpful computer animations of the key stitches. Overall I would recommend this for anyone who is using the book as a guide to make shirts.

This DVD was very easy to follow. I felt like I was taking a shirtmaking class. I sewed my first men's shirt by following this DVD and it turned out great! This maybe a little difficult for a beginner but he walks you through each section so you should be ok. Keep in mind that this complements the book and does not cover every aspect of shirtmaking as the book does.

A very useful DVD not only for beginners,

Before I ordered this DVD I had already had the book "Shirtmaking" by David Page Coffin. Although the book is very useful, some points are difficult to understand for beginners like me. The DVD is very good structured and David explain and show all the tricky techniques himself. I have been using his techniques when sewing collars, sleeve plackets or attaching sleeves. And the result looks very professional. I would recommend this DVD and the book for all who wants to try some new sewing techniques.

techniques explained in a very simple and easy way to understand, even if your not know much English and do not have much experience with the shirts. It's a way of learning to do things right!
