FIRSTLY THERE IS A LOT OF GAY SEX IN THIS BOOK, BUT THEN IF IT IS PUBLISHED BY GAYMENT PUBLISHERS, THATS WHAT ONE WOULD EXPECT. I READ EVERY WEEKEND AND MY RANGE OF READING IS UNIVERSAL FROM CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE TO THE BIZARRE AND UNUSUAL AND I'M GAY - WHEN I GOT THIS BOOK AS A GIFT THROUGH MY 'FIREND' VIA THE NEW YORK AMAZON STORE ORDER - I HESITATED - A GAY THEME BOOK FROM INDIA! GAY INDIANS IN INDIA - WAS IT GOING TO BE ALL CURRY AND RICE QUEEN STUFF OR ONE OF THOSE BORING ANTHOLOGIES OF INDIANS WHO CAME TO THE US AND WENT BACK TO FIND THEIR ROOTS - WHAT EVER THAT MEANS - I TOOK THE PHONE OFF THE HOOK AND BURNT THE CHEESE PIE AND THEN FORGOT TO FEED THE CAT UNTIL IT PEE-ED ON MY FOOT. SHIVA AND ARUN IS MORE THAN JUST A GAY SEX BOOK - ITS A DEEPLY REVEALING BOOK OF HOW YOUNG OINDIANS COPE AND DON'T COPE WITH THE MARRIAGE PRESSURES, CUSTOMS AND CONSTRICTIONS OF RELIGION - BOTH MUSLIM AND HINDU. ONE DOES NOT APPRECIATE HOW FREE WE ARE IN THE U.S - WITH PARENTS BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO IF THEY SUGGEST WE MARRY THE NICE GIRL ON THE NEXT BLOCK. ...AND LAUGH, YES I MUST ADMIT THAT THE INDIAN TERMINOLOGY IS EASY TO FOLLOW - THE AUTHOR HAS A NEAT WAY OF EXPLAIN LITTLE THINGS AND THEN TURNING THESE SNIPPETS INTO JOKES, LAUGHS AND PLOTS. I SUPPOSE YOU WILL THINK ITS A BIT FAR FETCHED - BUT (1) I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING OF GOING TO INDIA IN THE SUMMER OF 2,000 AND I'M DEFINITELY ASKING AMAZON IF THEY HAVE ANYTHING ELSE BY THE SAME AUTHOR. IT WAS A GREAT READ - WHAT MORE CAN ONE SAY. THE SIMPLE BOTTOM LINE QUESTION IS, HOW OFTEN DO WE GET THE CHANCE TO GET REAL INSIGHT TO GAY YOUNG GUYS OF OTHER CULTURES OUTSIDE OUR LIBERATED U.S. THANKS AMZAON FOR STOCKING IT FOR MY FIREND TO GET IT FOR MY 40th BIRTHDAY.

it was touching, as well as shocking to see that in the rigid and structured indian society there exist avenues for men who love men to find their paths; this book with its tender passion moments and sweet erotic events takes one on an adventure that is filled with pleasant surprises. I liked it because i could see myself in the characters. I would highly recommend this for any man who loves another man.
