Saraya-style melodic hard rock,
By
This review is from: Shiva (Audio CD)
Yeah, I ended up buying this album by mistake. I saw it in a clearance bin and decided it was worth a couple bucks just on the off chance it was a later album by NWOBHM band Shiva. The cover art fits that band's style. As it turns out, this is the self-titled 2002 debut by the Swedish melodic rock band of the same name. This is one of those happy mistakes, because if there's anything I like more than an obscure NWOBHM album it's a good Swedish melodic rock album. Winning!Anyway, back to the actual album. Shiva is a female-fronted band that's got a solid hard rock backbone. Vocalist Anete Johansson is no delicate flower here, and can belt out the hard rockers with the best of `em. This album actually reminds me a lot of the Saraya albums, which is definitely a good thing. There's also something of Robin Beck and Alyson Avenue here, but Shiva rocks a bit harder. It's just a good, solid rocking album with great melodies and strong vocals. I'm definitely glad I chanced upon this album, and I imagine Shiva's debut will be just as satisfying to fellow fans of female-fronted melodic rock. Saraya fans in particular will get a kick out of this one.
