5.0 out of 5 stars Get the Shivers
It would be too easy to pass Jamie O'Neal off as a Faith Hill wannabe. True, she's blonde and sexy; true, sometimes there's a hint of the Hill voice in her delivery. But Jamie is a singer and a star in her own right. First off, she's an excellent songwriter as evidenced in her hit, "There Is No Arizona." What a unique, refreshing and different song...

3.0 out of 5 stars cd was great
I loved the cd. It was awesome; it only had one major draw back it could not be played on my computer. To me the regular cds are better than these enhanced versions.

But Jamie is a singer and a star in her own right. First off, she's an excellent songwriter as evidenced in her hit, "There Is No Arizona." What a unique, refreshing and different song. Secondly, the passion and emotion in Jamie's voice does not sound forced or insincere. She really sounds like she means the things she sings about. And the production, instrumentation and back-up vocals are superb. Truly, a great debut album from a lady we should hear a lot from in the future. In addition to the aforementioned "Arizona" track, there are two classic songs here: "She Hasn't Heard Him Yet" and "I'm Still Waiting." These are great songs, that really tug at the heartstrings without being maudlin or sappy.

Actually, the whole CD shines with some really great up-tempo numbers, ballads, and a very good duet with Mark Wills.

Try this album out and let's get Jamie up where she belongs!

4.0 out of 5 stars There is no Arizona - song of the year?, December 31, 2000
By
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)
I truly believe this song, "There is no Arizona", may be the song of the year. It's lyrics are haunting and the music is addictive. The sound is like no other in country music today and it will stop a person in their tracks the first time they hear it. I think Mrs. O'Neal is going to be a big hit on the country scene because she brings something new to country, which is hard to do these days. Her sound is enough in itself but with her ability to create her OWN music, she is here for good. In my opinion, there really is only one more song on this CD that will crack the top ten and it is the title song, "Shiver". The song with Mark Wills will make a run but I don't think it will make it. I enjoy all of the songs on the CD but none of the others have the same "gotcha" attribute as "Arizona". The CD is worth the money just to listen to her unique, sultry voice - singing and speaking. A very cool CD and a great new addition to country music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Abolutely Amazing!!, February 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)
There are no words to describe what a great CD this is! Jamie Oneal has accomplished an amazing feat with her debut album! When I first heard the song "There is no Arizona" on the radio, I immediately related to it, and what the woman in the song was feeling. I pointed the video out to my boyfriend one day while watching CMT, and he surprised me with the CD for Christmas. I didn't think that it would be very good, but no other CD has occupied my Car, Computer, or CD player at home. This is a constant Album I cannot get enough of! My boyfriend even likes the songs on there, and that is a stretch for him. He doesn't particularly like female singers. We get in the car now, and he is like "honey, do you have that Jamie CD in here?" It's great! Look out Faith, Martina, and the Chicks.. here comes Jamie, and she is about to Explode into the Country scene like you have never seen before! Congrats on your debut Jamie! You deserve it!

5.0 out of 5 stars G'day Jamie!!, April 7, 2001
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)

When I heard the single "There is No Arizona" - I totally fell in love with Jamie's voice and style! I have not heard a debut like this since Jo Dee Messina's self-titled disc in 1996. Who would have known that Australia of all places would give us such awesome coutry music? Artists like Sherrie Austin, keith urban, and now Jamie O'Neal.

My favorite cut is the Jamie O'Neal/Lisa Drew/Shaye Smith penned "Frantic", it is eerily parallel to my life, running around from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep. "When I Think About Angels" is an upbeat and uplifting tune about that special someone who give you butterflies. "I'm Still Waiting" and "She Hasn't Heard it Yet" are haunting ballads. The title track (which Jamie co-wrote with Drew and Smith about her husband) is absolutely incredible!! Jamie's husband lends his vocal talent to "Back Where We Belong". "No More Protecting My Heart" is a toe-tapper and features a rarity in country music - a saxophone solo! The combination of all of these tunes together is phenomenal and I listen to it beginning to end, over and over again and love it more everyday!

There is really not a bad song on here, Jamie is an AWESOME performer, she has a knack for bringing the songs to life. Buy this disc, you will not be disappointed - Jamie is going to become a force to be reckoned with in Music City!

5.0 out of 5 stars There May be no Arizona, but there IS Jamie O'Neal, November 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)
Some words to describe this album would be Fresh, Renewing, Lucrative. From the emotional Ballad There is No Arizona, about a woman who finally realizes her wanderer is not coming back, to the powerful No More Protecting My Heart about a woman who is tired of holding back from love, and moves forward and gives into it all. If you're wanting something to stimulate your mind and emotion, this album is the real deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arizona Jamie, November 1, 2000
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)
I am a long-time fan of country music, and can usually spot a top 40 hit when I hear it for the first time! This one should go to #1. By the 3rd time we heard it, my children could sing it and identify with it! Jamie is an up and rising star! Easy to get hooked on her music!

From the first moment I heard There Is No Arizona on the radio, I knew Jamie O'neal was an artist I would like. But When I found her CD on sale at Target for $7.99, I thought, Hmmm, maybe this CD isn't that good. But still at $7.99... that isn't a bad price for a CD, so I picked it up and brought it home. I popped it into the CD player and listened to it while I was playing on the computer. As I listened to When I Think About Angels, I knew that this CD wasn't going to have one bad song on. It's been a constent in my CD player and even plays on my machine. This CD is awesome. Anyone who is a fan of country or even easy listening this CD is perfect. She's just country enough that you hear it in her voice, but not necessarily all of her songs. Anyone will enjoy this CD from begining to end... I know I did

5.0 out of 5 stars Rhett reviews Jamie O'Neal, March 22, 2001

This is the most riveting album I have heard in a very long time. From the time I purchased it, I had every song memorized in two weeks. I simply can't stop listening to it. Jamie seems to me to possess all of the strongest vocal talents of all my favorite female artists. She has more flare and passion than Pam Tillis, more sensitivity than Trisha Yearwood, more energy than Faith Hill, more sex appeal than all of them combined and a knack for touching my soul like no other I have ever heard (Celine Dion comes close). The music on this album is exquisite. EVERY song is perfectly written and performed. She strikes a blend of soulful country with a pop feel that simply overjoys the ears and heart; so fun to listen to. A warning label should be posted on "I'm Still Waiting". I cried hard. "When I think about angels" takes you back to your first love. "There is no Arizona" will live forever- awesome! "Where we belong" has the sheer power to reunite even the totally obliterated relationship. "No more protecting my heart"- gotta get up and dance to this one. "She hasn't heard it yet"- devastating. "You rescued me"- on a par with Tim McGraw's, "Not a moment too soon". "Shiver"- I don't dare try to comment on this one. Well, O.K.... let's just say it created an atmosphere my fiance and I will never forget. "The only thing wrong" shows off Jamie's incredible blues ability. "I'm not gonna do anything without you" is a delightful duet with tremendous crispness. "Sanctuary" is soulful, light and deep all at the same time- what a ride. "Frantic" is strangely sexy. "To be with you"- this is how everyone wants to be wanted: with everything they have. This album, in my opinion, is better than Shania Twain's "Come on over" C.D. I can't remember the last time I became an instant fan like this. I've never even joined a fan club before, but I find myself wanting to now. I simply must see Jamie in concert. Please let me know how I can become an official fan. WAY TO GO, JAMIE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great voice, great songs, April 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Shiver (Audio CD)
Jamie O'Neal combines the two elements that make a great record - a great voice and great songs. Jamie's voice has the sincerity and gutsy emotion of the pre-pop-Faith Hill. I am a long-time Faith fan, and I am disappointed with Faith's latest album, so it is nice to know that artists like Jamie O'Neal care about choosing great songs to go with their great voices. "Shiver" takes the listener on an emotional roller coaster ride, from the happiness of "When I Think About Angels", to the heart-breaking "She Hasn't Heard It Yet", to the seductive "To Be With You", and of course, the #1 song "There Is No Arizona". Jamie shows her versatility by shifting gracefully from blues ("The Only Thing Wrong") to pop ("No More Protecting My Heart"), all the while keeping the country flavor. Though Jamie's music may not please the most strict old-fashioned country fans, her sincere expression and vocal ablility make "Shiver" and album full of real emotion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ed rates Jamie, February 27, 2001

I was pleasantly surprised by this well-done CD. I had heard "Arizona" quite a few times and purchased "Shiver" on a whim. From the first song, a catchy, Vince Gill-like toe-tapper called "When I Think About Angels", I began thinking I had a winner. By the fourth track I was sure. If you like the "new country" style that is so popular today, you should give this CD a listen. I am more of a fan of rock, but talent is talent and the catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics on some ballads are blended well and provide a feel-good reaction. Thanks for the good times.
