Fantastic!,

Kristy's vocals on Shiver highlight this wonderful album of Ethereal-Rock. Beautiful and fast-paced, the melodies are stirring and highly enjoyable. A pleasing experience. Check it out.

I love Rose Chronicles so much! They sound to me as a cross between Mors Syphilitica( who is my favorite female band ever) & Cocteau Twins. The entire cd is great. I especially love the song Nothing's Real. There is something about this song that makes me have to constantly play it over & over. This cd is a definite must have!

A must buy!,

You have stumbled across a rare prize. A relatively unknown band that everyone should know. When you listen to them the first time, listen to the entire album. If you don't think you like it, listen again. I know it's tough but truth be told I didn't like them either. I heard Blood Red off of their other full length album "Happily Ever After" in an episode of La Femme Nikita and loved that song, so I got "Shiver" ; the only album on Rhapsody at the time. It didn't speak to me at first, so I listened again, and again, and it got better each time. It was a style of music I was unfamiliar with, so perhaps it threw me off. It is very layered and melodic; the attention to every sound is incredible. Kristy Thirsk's voice is that of a fallen angel, at times haunted, brooding, and scorned - but still reaching to the heights of heaven. Her range is astounding, and her solo career has included some fine work with other artists. The lyrics are truly worth reading; all are Thirsk's creations, which surely improves her performance of them. Do not worry if you aren't into lyrics, the sounds alone are worth the listen. Speaking of listen, "Awaiting Eternity" is a fine introduction to the album. Their music varies but it can be said to represent it well. "Dwelling" is a personal favorite - one of many, but sets itself apart. "Visions" is enchanting, "Diedre" is moving, and all seem to speak to you. I am amazed that many of these songs have so many plays, but never seem to get old. You couldn't ask for a better value in music. They have become the first band I have ever called my favorite. Perhaps they will become so for you too.

Yeah, I agree that this is better than the follow up. It's not necessarily as polished, but it has more character to it, a real freaky focus on souls and death with Thirsk's vocals soaring to seemingly impossible heights on songs like "Awaiting Eternity". Yeah, I know, sounds pretty gruesome, and it gets a little preachy, but don't be put off too much, just enjoy the music and Kristy's awesome pipes.
By the way, the band itself is gone, but Thirsk has done some nice things with Delerium and is presently active with another group. She has a website, I'll let you check it out if this makes you want to follow her.

The Great Bands always break up too soon..,

I think Shiver is actually better than their more popular second album. Kristy Thursk's voice and singing are truly great; she's one of the most memorable front women in rock, and the band is good too. This seems to fit squarely in the alternative rock genre, though it's hard to compare RC's sound to any one band. They seem to have a variety of influences.. among them, I would guess, Cocteau Twins, and, given the band's timing and location, some Seattle grunge. Even if this combination doesn't sound good to you, it is still worth a listen; there are _many_ good songs here (the "bottle song" comes to mind) and it's good after many repeated listens. In other words-- BUY THIS!
