4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, be careful of sizes
Good quality, but be careful about sizes: I have a 30" waist and ordered a size medium, which usually fits me with other brands. But this was WAY too small (maybe good for a 27" waist).

3.0 out of 5 stars Good cup, bad jock strap.
The cup is well constructed, provides excellent protection, and is comfortable. The problem is with the jock strap. The cup is well constructed, provides excellent protection, and is comfortable. The problem is with the jock strap. While the jock strap is much superior to a traditional one, after two months of use, primarily in grappling for roughly 5-7 hours a week, the seam that connects the cup holder to the jock strap started tearing. After one more month (three total), the cup completely tore off from the jock strap. What is frustrating is I can't find any "shock doctor" jock straps for sale individually; they only come with a cup, which means I have to pay full price for cup and strap even though the cup is in great condition. To improve the product, they should double or triple stitch the connecting seam or just sell jock straps separately.

This cup is very comfortable. As someone who has played baseball for over 17 years this is the first cup I can stand to wear while on the field. Worth the money. The jock that comes with it is your standard jock nothing too fancy.

Edit: The jock does seem a bit small, ordering one size larger than you are would be a good idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, December 3, 2009

I have been using this for the past couple of weeks during BJJ class and it works great. It is comfortable and stays in place when drilling or rolling. I barely even realize I am wearing it. I have already taken quite a few knees to the groin with no pain or discomfort. I will probably buy another one (minus the cup) very shortly.

This is the best groin protector I have used so far. I barely notice it is there. It doesn't dig in or causes any discomfort. I highly recommend this protector for martial art use.

I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling. You don't even notice this cup when you are rolling or grappling. It's light and extremely comfortable. It can take straight knees when someone is trying to pass your guard and you don't even feel it. Just a bruise on the other person's knee. Buy this cup, I was considering it for a while and am very satisfied with this product.

This is an awesome cup very durable, and yet comfortable. Don't listen to the idiots on here saying the sizes are small, I have a 32" inch waist and the medium is perfect for me. I think these reviewers are a lot fatter then they say they are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Product, December 2, 2009

Great product. Takes a solid accidental kick with minimum residual discomfort. Very comfortable. As jock straps go, its the best I've come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Strap, March 14, 2009

I am a pretty big guy using it in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The most important thing is it stays in place. It is comfortable. And it can take a hit without feeling it. I would and have recommend to other competitors.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be marketing victims, August 19, 2010
This review is from: Shock Doctor Men's Ultra Supporter with Ultra Carbon Flex Cup (Apparel)
Having bought the Shock Doc Ultra I tested it with a few impacts and then threw it away.

Reasons for disliking the SDU:

1.Impacts from side angles were not as good as I woukld like. I know no guard will fully protect from the side but this was poor. This was proved right with my next groin guard purchase.

2. Impacts from the front were less hurtful than if I was not wearing the SDU but I felt too much "feedback" on my groin for me to be confident to engage in combat in this. Perhaps going up one size would help a bit, but I was already 1 size above what SDU recommeded. Surley SD should know their sizes are 1 or 2 sizes too small (as all the amazon customers seem to know in their reviews) and it looks like they do this to sell more SDUs as people return to buy a larger one.

3. A lot of money has been pumped into marketing this product and similar ones, and they make the product LOOK different from a boring old groin guard cup so you THINK it will be more advanced and better. A cup that flexes? Great to show card driving over it on youtube and it not break. But use your common sense and ask what will not flex INTO my groin? Yes of course a non flexible guard! As the one I name below. Also if it doesn't flex, it will hurt the opponent more! Just what we want. Or in ball sports it will bounce the ball hit back more instead of lessing the guard deform into your sensitive bits.

4. Holding the SDU in place are the shorts which are nice and comfy, look cool (great the marketing) but seem like they are going to rip at the sweing seams if you handle them without lots of care. Not only this but remember we want a groin guard to stay in place and you cannot adjust how tight or loose it is held since the shorts are not adjustable and have a kind of FREE FLOATING (!) pocket in which the guard is held. Compare this to a less cool and colourful looking groin guard actually used by Thai Boxers where it is held in place with 3 fully adjustable straps and use common sense.

I now own a Sandee Groin Guard XL which is made in Thailand from steel metal but is surpisingly light. Also the padding around the edge is great. Holds in place great because of 3 straps adjustable. There is more space inside it like the designer knows it has to fit a man's parts unlike the SDU which seems to leave your groin pressed against its tight proportions. I assume the Sandee is made for Thai Boxing, but I use this for other martial arts (Kali) and real life situations where anything can happen, falling to the floor, being mobile on your feet, groin kneeing, stick impact and so on.
