Product Description

Nice quality shin instep pads made primarily for martial artists. These are definitely a step up from the flat pieces of foam cut to shape. They close on the shin with two velcro straps and fixed elastic wraps under the arch of the foot and behind the ankle. Toe straps (if you want to use them) work for either foot -so there's no "left" or "right" pad.

The shin straps are wide for a comfortable, snug fit. This keeps them in place so they don't slide around on your leg.

The outside of these pads are made of high quality artificial (PU) leather (similar to that used on the sides of "leather" car seats). While better padding than some models, if you're doing more than "light" or "medium" contact sparring (ie, Muay Thai or KickBoxing in a ring), we recommend that you step up to a sturdier set of pads.

For sizing, we recommend you use your (men's) t-shirt size as a guide. That generally works pretty well unless you're at one end of the bell curve or the other (on the thin or heavy side). Since they are elastic, they do accommodate a range of sizes/diameters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gear To Have!, October 7, 2008
This review is from: Shock Wave Shin Instep Pads (Misc.)
Being a Marine in Iraq, we choose to spend our little free time wisely. Our detachment has been trying to further our Marine Corps Martial Arts training, so that we are more effective against our enemy combatants. The Shock Wave Shin Pads have been an extremely awesome and effective tool for us to use! We get to use the force that is needed in applying our techniques without injuring any of our Marines, so that we are still effective on the battle field. This is a great product to get! I will definitely be ordering more gear from this supplier!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good foot coverage, a bit light on padding, December 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these instep protectors because I train in Tae Kwon Do. Sparring boots don't fit me well, presumably because I'm a woman with wide feet. Most TKD products as far as I can tell are designed for men. These have excellent foot coverage and I have easily replaced sparring boots with these. I have found the padding to be light on the shins, however. If you do heavy sparring, these may be too lightweight. They are fine for light sparring, although you may feel it a bit more than you expect to on the inevitable shin collisions with your sparring partner. Sizing for me was small as well, but I am short with large calves. I should have ordered the next size up. Overall a good design, but the padding on the shins could definitely stand some improvement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Protection, February 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These shin pads are great for the money -- but the foam is a little thin. I would definitely recommend these pads to new kickboxers but for advanced students or those who plan on going into competition, as soon as you start unleashing, these pads (like fabric pads might not protect you from impacts as well as some thicker ones can.

That being said, I do like these pads. They provide full coverage and were able to take pretty decent impacts to save my shins and above that they were light and compact and didnt slip one bit.

Great Starter pads!
