Great Gear To Have!,
This review is from: Shock Wave Shin Instep Pads (Misc.)
Being a Marine in Iraq, we choose to spend our little free time wisely. Our detachment has been trying to further our Marine Corps Martial Arts training, so that we are more effective against our enemy combatants. The Shock Wave Shin Pads have been an extremely awesome and effective tool for us to use! We get to use the force that is needed in applying our techniques without injuring any of our Marines, so that we are still effective on the battle field. This is a great product to get! I will definitely be ordering more gear from this supplier!

Good foot coverage, a bit light on padding,

I bought these instep protectors because I train in Tae Kwon Do. Sparring boots don't fit me well, presumably because I'm a woman with wide feet. Most TKD products as far as I can tell are designed for men. These have excellent foot coverage and I have easily replaced sparring boots with these. I have found the padding to be light on the shins, however. If you do heavy sparring, these may be too lightweight. They are fine for light sparring, although you may feel it a bit more than you expect to on the inevitable shin collisions with your sparring partner. Sizing for me was small as well, but I am short with large calves. I should have ordered the next size up. Overall a good design, but the padding on the shins could definitely stand some improvement.

Decent Protection,

These shin pads are great for the money -- but the foam is a little thin. I would definitely recommend these pads to new kickboxers but for advanced students or those who plan on going into competition, as soon as you start unleashing, these pads (like fabric pads might not protect you from impacts as well as some thicker ones can.
That being said, I do like these pads. They provide full coverage and were able to take pretty decent impacts to save my shins and above that they were light and compact and didnt slip one bit. Great Starter pads!

The shin guards/pads are very well made and easy to put on. I use them for my martial art class and they are staying in place very well. The price is very good and the service is excellent.
I made a mistake by entering 2 orders for the same item, I emailed Piranha Gear and within an hour they corrected the order and sent me a confirmation that it has been fixed before shipping out. I got my purchase the next day. I'm a big fan and definitely consider Piranha Gear for my future purchases.

I bought these because my shins were getting beat up kicking my bag when I train. I just wanted something to cushion the shin bone from getting so beat up, well these just don't work for that purpose. They are pretty thin and the padding that it does have is not very cushioned. These could be used for live sparring, but not for kicking a harder object such as a bag.

I use these shin pads in my martial arts class and they are dynamite! I'm petite and only 5' 4" so XS was the perfect size. They stay in place while I kick and are very comfortable while offering protection.

These guards are comfortable and worked great! I do advanced kickboxing and it was perfect to easily put on and felt weightless on. All I had to focus on was sparing exercises and not if my guards will shift. They arrived promptly in the mail and I liked the hand written thank you note that came with the packaging. It is refreshing in our high tech world to have a personal business transaction. Would buy more gear from them in the future.

My first time wearing them, I was glad for this particular purchase. My instep directly impacted my partner's knee. No pain. And the straps hold the pads closely to the foot, unlike my partner's standard Taekwondo boots, which I removed from his feet three times by accidently stepping on his toes. The only problem - I wish the upper straps were a bit longer. I have size large, which fit lengthwise, but the straps barely fit around my calves. They still hold well, but another inch would be great.

I've had these for a year, and it's a "you get what you pay for" deal.
- The padding is very thin and pliable. Okay for light sparring, but my shins still get bruised up if I get my kick checked. - The straps for your toes are more of a nuisance than anything. They also don't take much to get ripped off. - The part that covers your foot is very big, which can end up dragging on the ground and also be a nuisance. These are okay if you need starter gear, but if you're doing even moderate contact sparring, you'll wanna upgrade and invest in something stiffer and more protective.

For the price, its great! And I mean it, I used them for Kajukenbo and BJJ and they have worked fine on both styles. Comfortable enough for grappling, and solid enough for striking. I really recommend it, I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the results.
