I have been using my Shoebox compressor since June of this year. It works great with my Porter Cable 6 gallon shop compressor
I wanted to give it a 5 star rating. But the knock switch (the shutoff method at 4500 psi) is noisy and inconsistent. I will say it is reliable and will shut off around 4300-4700 psi. But the constant knock- knock above 3400 psi will drive you nuts. Mine is living in the garage because of it. My fill times do seem to exceed the manufacturers estimates. part of which may be my tank is 88 cu. ft. Carbon Fiber 4500psi. So I took the 44 cu. ft. fill time and doubled it, probably not fair. But it is what I did. My times exceed those by 15 minutes for a top off (3000 to 4500 fill)
The good news, it just keeps humming along and more shooting less pumping is ok with me.
I would and have recommended it to a friend.

This review is for the newer model. The Shoebox Freedom 8 which fills in half the time of the older units. On a 4500 PSI, 68 cu ft tank it took it from 0 PSI to 4500 PSI approximately two and a half hours. Would of taken slightly less but I shut it off a couple times to re-grease it as per the instructions and let it cool for a bit as it will get warm. It calls for regressing every 2-3 hours but I did it hourly with recommended White Lithium grease. The unit itself sounds like a sewing machine. It is pretty quiet! I have it set up in my garage and I cannot hear it from inside. I can faintly hear my other compressor kick in every once in a while as it is its air source for the shoebox. It is an extremely well made machine. Quality powder coating and a beautiful brushed aluminum outer. It comes with a rebuild kit for the o-rings as I believe every 70-100 hours the o-rings need to be replaced. Order some snap ring pliers if you do not have any for this part. The set up was fairly easy as well. Took me a little longer than it should have as I was going step by step with the booklet. Also was missing some fittings for my air compressor set up (totally my fault) The Freedom 8 is an incredible machine. If you want to save some money then get the Shoebox Max model but I can't wait that long! I have it paired with a 68 Cu Ft "Guppy" tank and it is like they are made for one another. If you live out in the country or not near a shop to get a tank refilled this is your best bet! Get it you will have no regrets! [...]

I purchased right from the manufactures web site with the guppy tank and replacement seals.

If I were to write a review it would be almost identical to PC JANITOR's review. The item is great and part of the fun is the serviceable parts and hands on experience of controlling 4500 pounds of pressure. Filling scuba tanks and filling HPA paintball tanks from those.

The clicking of the shut off switch is the worst part. But more an annoyance then an issue.
