An excellent book for all ages,
This review is from: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes (Mulberry Books) (Paperback)
I just got a copy of this book, and I was totally impressed by it. The pictures in the book are amazing, of the highest quality, and they are taken with an excellent eye. The book contains snapshots from shoes around the world, showing the people that wear them and what they do when they wear them. Many cultures and peoples are represented here, and it made me want to go out and see these places! Definitely a must have book for every child. (and every adult with a child's sense of wonder)

We made a classroom book of the shoes we wore over the school year and compared the types of shoes we wear in a large urban area to those worn by children in other places. The children identified all the colors, short boots like mine, etc. They found of lot to relate to in the book. Plus it was the right size for two friends to "read." Did I say they they told a story about each picture - it is a welcome addition to our library.

My 17m old son loves shoes and this book was perfect for him. He flips though it himself and likes us to read it to him. The pictures are very colorful and from all parts of the world. The back of the book includes information on all of the shoes, country, origin etc.. A fun educational book.

Quite evidently, to perpetrate this book about shoes the author just put together 31 almost random photos depicting people from around the world. (Any photos, mind you: since everybody everywhere wear shoes, all photos will show, somewhere, a shoe or two. The fact that in a book called "shoes", shoes are predominant in only 3 of the 31 photos obviously didn't matter to the author.)Then she wrote a brief (30 words) commentary explaining where those photos came from. Apparently, that's all required to manufacture and publish a book, but to ensure some sales --if you wish to undertake a similar operation yourself-- I would suggest you pay a few bucks to a website which will consequently publish a good critical review, and finally, you should make sure a few friends will post laudatory comments at Amazon or similar. To obscure the inanity (the ultimate nothingness) of the book, it is convenient to call it a "children's book" -such a label seems to make everything forgivable. And that's it: Unsuspecting buyers (like me) will come out and buy your book. Even if the book sells badly, you will collect a few thousand dollars, anyway. Ah, America! Land of Opportunities! |
