Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Do you adore fashion, beauty, and shopping—but lack a black Amex account? In today’s economy, who isn’t living on a budet?!

Charming, lavishly illustrated, and replete with invaluable advice, Shoestring Chic is the book for you.

Author and top fashion illustrator Kerrie Hess provides 101 tips on living the luxe life without spending a fortune.

Where can you find a wedding dress in Paris for $100? Or have a Bergdorf Goodman experience for under a twenty? Shoestring Chic shows you this and more—including how to shop the European way, and how to take heart in long-lost gems from your own closet. Throughout the book, today’s top designers chime in on how they define “chic”—reassuringly doable on a shoestring!

From the Back Cover

Stylish tips on living the luxe life for less, with advice from style makers Lulu Guinness, Collette Dinnigan, Kelly Wearstler, Sass & Bide and many more,

Do you suffer with the affliction of Gucci taste on a Gap budget? Do you dream about Temperley but live in Target? With the world economy forcing almost everyone to pull in her Pucci purse strings, there is even more reason to seek out life’s little luxuries, reinvent what you already own, and simply buy better.
Cunning stylists and designers have always known that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look chic. You just need to know where and when to look, what to splurge on, and when to go completely cheap and cheerful. In this book I’ll show you how.
    —Kerrie Hess

A must-read guide for every fashionista. Not only are the illustrations beautiful (I will be ripping pages out to turn in to posters in my dorm room) but the advice, tips and ideas make staying fashionable a cinch, even on the tightest of tight budgets. What's not to love about a book that gives practical suggestions for living a luxe life without blowing your savings for a rainy day and style snippets from industry insiders, like Lulu Guinness and Jemma Kidd. Loved it.

This book was terribly disorganized.
The tips were all over the place. One tip could talk about home decor, then the next tip about little black dresses, and then the next about dinner parties. If the author wanted to write a lifestyle book, she should have done that instead of half-assing it with a collection of random, unorganized thoughts while obviously (and painfully) referencing high end designers every other phrase or so. Waste of money--Savvy Chic by Anna Johnson is better written and far more substantive.

"I love fhis book! Super stylish, but still practical and fun. I love the illustrations and the author gives some GREAT tips for looking chic without spending a fortune. Full of helpful hints, but still pretty enough to display on my desk or give as a gift. I love that the tone of the book is more down to earth than most style guides; with tips on fashion, beauty and homewares all in the one book. A great buy.

Interesting approach to fashion sense but essentially for the young and slim. Good hints about hunting for bargains in recycled outlets, putting garments and accessory s together Waiting for a book on how to be chic if one is older and larger is a long one.
