About the Author

Shon C. Bury began his comic-book writing career at the tender age of 22. Taking a small feature in DC s ShowCase anthology, Shon took that small success and spun it into regular work at WildStorm where he co-created Black Ops with Jim Lee and Dan Norton. After writing several comics for WildStorm including a follow-up series co-starring fan favorite DV8 Shon moved on to write for both the X-Men and Superman franchises. Then...Shon decided to take a break from comics to focus on his English degree, fatherhood, and other creative pursuits. After a six years hiatus from comics, Shon has returned to comics with Shon C. Bury's Nox

I picked up Nox recently, at the local Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle. It's a pretty solid indie comic, with nice production values. The artwork is great, the characters are engaging, and the dialog has a tongue-in-cheek quality, that I can only call Buffy-esque as it pokes fun at the genres it draws from. The dialog is definitely this book's strongest point, and I'd recommend reading it just for that.

One thing I do have to say is that the adherence to (and indeed the plethora of references to) Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey, does sort of overshadow the story. There are times where you feel that the characters may be merely going through the paces for the sake of hitting all the right plot points. That being said, the characters themselves are interesting enough to keep you reading through the parts where the plot is less than convincing.

Overall, really nice work on a great looking book. Shon C. Bury has created some memorable characters, and could even take them further in future follow-up work.

This graphic novel will hook you and you WILL be compelled to finish it after cracking open the first page. I mean who doesn't love a story featuring intellectual urban hipsters fighting evil other worldly forces with the help of a crossing dressing nun! Told you that you would be hooked!
