Shoo Tags,
This review is from: Shoo!TAG Horse Fly and Mosquito Barrier Tag, Double for 2 Horses (Misc.)
I won a set of Shoo Tags last year at a competition. I braided them into the mane of my horse who HATES bugs. When we rode in the woods, he constantly tossed his head; in the pasture he was constantly moving to get away from the mosquitoes. I am buying another set for this summer. One set lasts most of the summer, so I think it is pretty cost effective compared to buying a lot of chemicals that don't work much better and have to be reapplied each day. This product did not get rid of 100% of the bugs, but at least 75%. My horse went from crazy from the bugs to where it was tolerable or better for him.

Tags seem to help but need stronger reinforcement on holes for horses,
This review is from: Shoo!TAG Horse Fly and Mosquito Barrier Tag, Double for 2 Horses (Misc.)
I bought one to deal with a tick infestation in our pastures after the flooding here in Arkansas. It seemed to help reduce the number of ticks significantly (from about 10-20 ticks a day to about 5-6) but did not completely eliminate - particularly at the rear underside of the horse. (Product instructions say to place in mane.) I will say that the one for myself seemed to work well - I did not have any ticks on me once I started attaching it to my pants at the waistband. A nice improvement to dousing myself with insect repellant. However, my Morgan only kept his on for about 2 months. I braided into his mane using nylon thread tied to the holes of the tag, and braiding rubber bands. It stayed in, but the tag itself eventually bent at the corners where attached, and fell off. The rubber bands and thread were still in place, so I can only surmise that the tag itself broke. Perhaps some thicker plastic or other reinforcement at the holes? I realize that metal would probably interfere with the magnetic idea. I also bought the flea and tick once for my dog. Those have lasted the entire 4 months. I can't say for sure if they helped, because, based on the results with the horse, I also did an Advantage treatment on her. I just couldn't take the chance on a flea infestation when surrounded by by neighbors who seem to think fleas are an acceptable part of dog ownership. I can say I saw no ticks on her, despite taking her for walks in our local state park. I am going to reorder the dog tags, and order a horse fly tag and see how it works - flies are particularly bad right now. I will be interested to see if the horse has a reduction in flies compared to the other horses in the pasture. Part of the reason I am going to order is to support what I think sounds like a wonderful idea. I hope that continued purchases will allow the company to make improvements on the product as it is field-tested with consumers.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Shoo!TAG Horse Fly and Mosquito Barrier Tag, Double for 2 Horses (Misc.)
Wow... what a great idea! I was SO tempted to buy these! I even bought them after I lost my job because they sounded so good...(5 packs of 2) Do they work? I don't have the foggiest idea... I can't seem to get them to stay in for longer than 24 hours... Most of the time they are coming out by the next morning... Plus... you have to have the barcode side toward the horse... horse shaking head... leads to turned tags. Maybe they should make them double sided... I tried everything to keep these on... braids, braids, more braids, plus mounting them on metal barrettes so maybe they would stay flat... nope... Amazon had them cheeper than anyone else.... but I still lost a lot of money... including buying barrettes and hair ties... You are probably better off buying fly masks and sheets... I have 4 Spanish Mustangs, a Navajo Pony, 1 half Arab and 5 Minis... a few horses may have a tag barely hanging on at the very ends of the mane... I've found a few in the dirt.. a few almost folded because the horses rubbed their necks... maybe these are meant for stalled horses that don't move much and don't have pasture buddies... ? I don't know... my horses are out and together... ??? Seems like a great idea... needs some improvements...
