Excellent Documentary,

"On February 24th, 1996, in the midst of heightening political unrest in Cuba and in the wake of a revised U.S. policy toward Cuban refugees, the unthinkable occurred. In those 90 miles of water separating the United States from Cuba, the Cuban government authorized two military fighter jets to attack and destroy unarmed civilian American aircraft over international water." -(excerpt from SHOOT DOWN website [...])
SHOOT DOWN is an exciting, new documentary. Its subject matter as well as its brilliant execution stand paramount among the many reasons for people to see this film. I saw the Washington D.C. premiere of SHOOT DOWN and had an opportunity to dialogue with the producer and director during the talk back. I strongly recommend visiting the film's website ([...]) for a superb overview and introduction of the subject matter. Winner of the 2007 Sonoma Film Festival Award for Best Documentary, Shoot Down is the first feature length film to tell the true and complex story behind one of the most pivotal events in U.S.-Cuba relations. It is a story of diplomatic relations, human rights, the fortitude of family and the dogged passion ignited by the search for truth and freedom. (excerpt from the [...]) What struck me most about the film are the questions it raised, the content of which stayed with me for days. Consequently I participated in a number of conversations about the the ongoing relationship between the USA and Cuba and USA and the rest of the world. In a genre where documentarians are producing more and more biased films when it comes to political issues, it is refreshing to find film makers whose goal is to explore the complexity and nuance of the events that shape our country with honesty and integrity.

Top notch production team. Tasteful and very well timed musical score. Documentary has very logical flow. Content, facts and interviews are well presented at precisely the right time for relevance. Clearly moves the viewer through the events that led up to the shoot down and after, leaving very little chance for misunderstanding. Very credible and objective presentation shedding much needed light on this very significant event in US-Cuba history/relations. I congratulate everyone involved in this production. It was a sad day indeed for all Cubans and anyone else in the world who values human life.

This is absolutely a must-see for everyone! I always wondered why the government at the time never did anything when 4 Americans were attacked.

An excellent documentary.
I have a question: What will be the response from our government to this infamous act of terrorist by the Cuban government if instead of being Cuban-Americans, some born in the US and also veterans of our armed forces, they have been born in Oklahoma or Arkansas? Probably,we had taken punitive action against these criminals. Fernando Dominicis Melbourne, FL.

My daughter told me to go see this movie while it was in the theater, and I was lucky to catch it during its brief run. As someone who works in the field of education, I was struck by this film's ability to handle such a multi-faceted issue with an amazing amount of clarity and specificity. I think US/Cuba relations are incredibly complicated and it is often hard to understand the intricacies of these countries' relationship. I remember thinking, "I can't understand how this event could have happened." In just an hour and a half, I walked away with a lot of history and a lot of insight, something that is hard to do with such big issues and big questions. I recommend this movie to anyone, especially those who work in education. It is a great resource for beginning the conversation on the topic of international relations.

Great Doc! Great Experience!,

I have been a big fan of doc's for years and this movie is one of the best I have seen. With a great balance of journalistic even-handedness and real heart, the storytelling of this movie brought the events of the Shoot Down in 96 to life, keeping me interested and excited for two hours. I went to the release of this movie in DC. Even though I knew the story (I had remembered the event because my parents were in government), I was amazed at the complexity of the events and humanity of the people involved. It's rare that a movie keeps me thinking about the issues after I leave the theater. With Shoot Down, not only was there a heated conversation after the credits rolled, but I found myself continuing to consider the international issues and the human rights questions the movie so eloquently and thoughtfully brought to the table.

Saw this film in theaters and was bowled over. I was so happy to see that (finally!) someone had made a film about such an important, and often overlooked, event in American history.
What was so great about this film was the way it avoided the, all to common, trend among documentaries to show one simple/constructed point of view. I can't recall any other film that has presented such a complete, well rounded, concise (and entertaining) story while still being moving. The issues raised in the film- about an event over a decade old- are still so relevant today. Definitely, definitely, worth watching.

Everyone should see this Documentary, Not Just Cubans,Everyone, To Know what this Murderous Regime has done and is capable of doing, The Current admin and other detractors want to sugarcoat and "Engage" with these criminals just like the Clinton Admin did. This is a very sad account of People who had risked their lives and posed no harm to anyone and were Shot Down by Cuban Migs.
