This series started out with a Big Bang. By the time this series 22 came out, it has moved to a whimper.

Series 22 has two episodes, $4.99 an episode, not worth the money, in my opinion. When a jewelry robbery goes awry, the notorious Bilkin family is put on trial for murder. This is a long standing family with roots into crime, murder, thievery, and everything in-between. The series has some excellent actors, DCSI Michael Walker played by David Hayman, DCI Rosin Connor played by Victoria Smurfit, and DS David Satchell played by Dorian Lough. These are long standing actors who have played in every episode. They work well together, but only DCI Connor seems to have matured in her role. She is the sensible one, wanting to not cut any corners to solve the murders. DCSI Walker has run afoul of going the straight and narrow before, and he wants to rush to judgement putting everyone at risk. DS Satchell plays heavily in this series. He is the witness that bungles his part, but then brings everything home. This should be the last of the series, everything that could have been played has been done. This group has become weary with their roles and their lives.

Trial and Retribution is a crime drama from Lynda La Plante that has broken ground in both style and content. The programme traces the entire series of a serious crime. The story begins as a crime is committed. The police investigation proceeds to an arrest and then on into the law courts where the defendant is tried by a judge and jury. The viewers hear the final verdict - but it is for them to determine whether justice has been done. This recent series was not a fitting ending to this show, but it will do.

The problem with this series is that I personally don't quite understand the professional environment and therefore the relations between colleagues. I find the personality quirks overdone and by the same token, the professional missteps are disquieting. Many of the stories leave me perplexed and a bit upset about policing and police organizations in general. On the other hand, as is the case for most British police series, you can't turn it off. The suspense is always gripping and it is so well filmed and acted that you keep watching, however much you may be dismayed by the violence or the reactions of the protagonists, Always interesting...
