Alpha Chrony is great,

This review is from: Shooting Chrony Alpha Chronograph (red) (Misc.)
The alpha Chrony works great. I have read some negative reviews, but I have had no problems whatsoever. i use this chrony indoors with their new LED lights as replacements for the standard sky screens. I heavily recommend the use of these LED lights for accurate operation of this unit. (available from shooting chrony ) It is also important to make sure you shoot in a narrow area that is about 2 squate inches in size. You need to shoot 4-6 inches above the 2 inch wide "eyes" of the unit for consistant and accurate readings. You must also be about 10 feet from the unit when you shoot, so the barrel gasses do not get into the unit's vision. I have shot hundreds of rounds through this unit without a single bad reading. If you are deliberate and careful when using this tool, it will work flawlessly.

the chrony does what it is suppose to very well. However, the rods that hold the deflector and the plastic deflectors do not stay in place when shooting, the muzzle blast will cause the plastic deflector to fly off and then the rods will also fly off.

Shooting Chronys are widely used for a very good reason: they work. With that in mind, here are some ideas that may help you get better results....The user needs to be careful about aiming to prevent damage to the unit. I highly recommend use of a shooting-sled type gun rest to lock down your gun while using the Chrony. I am getting very good results by using all the rods and shades. That is, I fit two rods together at each corner. (The manual talks about using one rod at each corner in most situations.) There is some danger of damaging the shade pieces if constantly assembled and disassembled, so I suggest leaving the unit set up unless it will be unused for a long period. My final hint is to remember that you can remove a single shot from a group (e.g., an odd out-of-range measurement): see "How to Delete Chrony Memory" on page 5 of the manual.
