I liked it.
Since I have not read her novels, I only look at Shobha as a journalist. I bought the book hoping to get a glimpse of her mind, and this I got. Her writing is simple, personal and gets to the point (when there is one) fast. Her articles, when not lampooning or eulogising someone on the basis of a couple of meetings, tell the story of a little girl who goes through...

Since I have not read her novels, I only look at Shobha as a journalist. I bought the book hoping to get a glimpse of her mind, and this I got. Her writing is simple, personal and gets to the point (when there is one) fast. Her articles, when not lampooning or eulogising someone on the basis of a couple of meetings, tell the story of a little girl who goes through fun-loving teenagehood to become a mother who yearns for the good old days. But the way the story is told, now that's something. It's also a great book for anyone curious about Bombay, though it concentrates on higher class society.
