Shooting Lilly Hits Close To The Heart,
By A Customer
This review is from: Shooting Lily [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I am a big fan of the indie film "...And God Spoke". Andbased on that had a look see at director Arthur Borman's follow-up effort SHOOTING LILLY. Mr. Borman has, for the second time, delivered a film that manages easy laughs, good acting, and a solid story. Not a simple feat at any budget level, much less on the one this film must have been working with (note: tech credits are solid). Told for the mostpart in home-video flashbacks, LILLY is the story of a young couple's break-up and how the husband (Matt Winston - keep an eye out for him in the future!) must seek out the relationships faults through old home movies in order to save it. Without sounding overly complimentary...it's riviting. The home video devise is off-putting at first, but soon draws you in as the characters cease to be characters and start to become friends. A mark of brilliant and mature writing, as well as talented actors, (the couple who play the couple it turns out are married in the real world). The film is fairly unflinching and honest, and only in the final moments does it compromise in a mildly "Hollywood" manor. A film festival must see is finally available to the general public via the internet - don't miss it.

OVERLOOKED INDIE FILM A MUST SEE...,
By Chris Gore "CG" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

Shooting Lily is an example of what smart indie filmmaking should be about. The story is simple, about the break up of a marriage, but the way the story is told is highly original. The lead character examines his relationship with his wife by viewing all of their home movies. He comes to realizations about love, life and what's really important. I saw this clever movie at a film festival where the director Arthur Borman spoke. The film is shot in 35mm and video and the Borman told this tall tale about how they had no money so they actually bought a top of the line Hi-8mm video camera, shot hours and hours of film for a month and then returned the camera! (I'm using this same technique for my film -- hey, it's a free camera!) A great indie that must be seen!

Shooting Lily is a film well worth your time... it's a departure from the usual studio film, and offers an unique perspective of an off-kilter world. This from the director of "And God Spoke...," a hilarious Hollywood send-up, which featured Soupy Sales as Moses! Microwave some popcorn, pop in a tape, and enjoy!

Brilliantly done!,

I loved this movie. I thought that it had an interesting perspective of life and how relationships are. I do recommend everyone buy this. Matt Winston and Amy Smallman (who actually are married in real life) are really great. Matt Winston is very funny, but also is serious in that he wants to change his life in the film. This is a wonderful comedy. If you want something new, watch this movie! Matt Winston rocks!

Parts of this movie hit really close to home...but I loved it anyway! Very funny, totally obnoxious, and almost too real.

I was up late one night, saw it on TV and really liked it. I would definatly recommend it to anyone looking for something other than a very predictable "Big Budget" Hollywood movie.

A funny and heartwarming romance.,

A first glance I thought Shooting Lily was going to be another predictable X Generation love story, but I decided to give it a try anyways. Boy was I surprised! It started out fast, funny and unpredictable and it only got better! The acting was first rate and the style and tone were perfect. Unlike most movies it was totally unpredictable and kept my interest all the way through. The ending was so good I couldn't get it out of my mind for a week. I don't claim to know anything about what it takes to make a movie - but I just loved "Shooting Lily." I hope the big studio people take notice and start making more movies like this.

Everything indie film should be: clever and cutting edge,

I've watched the film three times now: the first time as soon as it was done, I popped the tape back in and watched it again. The director totally gets the psycho-ironies of modern relationships and captures it in a seat-of-your-pants, guerilla filmmaking style.

This romantic comedy was one of the best I've seen in a very long time. This is one of those movies that is funny no matter who your company might be.

I can't stop watching it!,

Wow! I bought "Shooting Lily" just over two weeks ago and I've already watched it six times! As a matter a fact, I've already reviewed it on this very site. I just can't get the darn thing out of my mind. I see more and more little things everytime I watch it. My wife thinks I'm crazy, she tells me, "Willy, how can you keep watching the same movie over and over?" I just can't explain it. It's just so funny! Well, the bad news is, I'm not going to watch "Shooting Lily" tonight because my wife has threatened to make me sleep on the couch. The good news is, she's leaving for her mothers' this weekend! I figure I can watch it at least three times before she returns. :)
