Editorial Reviews

Review

Mario Puzo said: 'Writing is like hanging around the house all day waiting for the phone to ring.' Mr Spiegelman has been getting some good calls. -- Joseph Nocero , Miami Star-Telegram, Sept 1999

Take Charles Bukowski and combine with Henry Miller and throw in a pinch of Vonnegut and this will give you some idea of what to expect here. A brilliant, hilarious, vastly enjoyable writer. -- Mike Morgulis, Chicago Review of Books, Sept 1999

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Shooting Pigeons (and other satisfactions) (Paperback)
A critics excerpt on the cover of Shooting Pigeons reads "Jack Spiegelman could write about standing in the line and the DMV waiting to apply for plates and turn it into a masterpiece". Thankfully, Shooting Pigeons does little to test this hypothesis. Why? Shooting pigeons is literally full of great stories. Remember that great party a few years back when that "neighborhood" guy passed the night away telling all those great anecdotes? Well that guy was Jack Spiegelman and those anecdotes make up a large part of Shooting Pigeons. The topics run the gamut from Jack's childhood in Buffalo, through two marriages, three careers and everything in between. All told with a straight ahead, eminently readable, style. I literally couldn't put it down. So, if you are a neighborhood guy yourself, or your tastes run toward the "slice of life" side of things you will love Shooting Pigeons. Either way, be the first in your neighborhood to get a copy and make sure to pass it around. I promise you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for anyone who loves to read and laugh!, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Shooting Pigeons (and other satisfactions) (Paperback)
I thought that this book was great because it was so funny and I couldn't believe that all his stories were true. They were just so funny! They were very entertaining and I couldn't wait to see what he would write about next. After the first story I knew that it was going to be a great book! I think that everyone should get a chance to read this book. It was wonderful!
