Book Description

A Dangerous Kind of Love . . .

When Ellie Watt offered herself to her thuggish former lover Javier to save Camden's life, she never imagined the twisted game Javier had planned for her. Trapped by him and his entourage of killers, Ellie is forced to commit a dangerous, heinous crime-or Javier will kill Camden. Now ex-con artist Ellie must find a way to stay ahead of the game . . . before it destroys her and the only man she ever loved.

Camden McQueen can't forget Ellie Watt. Seeking revenge and pursued by the authorities for a crime he didn't commit, the talented tattoo artist does things he never thought himself capable of to save Ellie. As Camden straddles the line between love and retribution, he vows to do everything in his power to get her back. But if Camden unleashes his dark side, will Ellie still love him?

"A brilliant follow-up to a wondrous debut. Book three, where are you?" - RT Magazine

"Once again, Karina Halle has lured me into a gritty world of loving lies and backstabbing romance. She writes the most alluring characters and one hell of a story line I've ever read. Her voice is lyrical and raw- and I can't get enough of it." - My Secret Romance

"In short: this sequel was absolutely delicious. More sexiness, more nastiness, more depravity. Halle really knows how to take you on a journey and have you change your mind a million times before it's over." - The Book Geek

"This is the perfect second part in the series. It is extremely fast paced and exciting, both emotional as well as action-driven, constantly leaving us on pins and needles." - Natasha is a Book Junkie

If you have not read book one in this series... stop... go back to start... this is not a stand alone! Read the novella "On Every Street" first and then read "Sins and Needles" before you read this one.
Book two in this series continues to keep us on the edge of our seats. I was not able to put the book down once I started. A very intense and engaging read from beginning to end! And... sadly... it ends that way on a cliffy. I am not a fan of waiting but I love this story so I guess I'll just have to deal. It's going to be a long wait for the final book! The ending was a big surprise...
The star of this series for me is hands down... Camden... I simply love his character. I'm tired of everyone dumping on my boy... if anyone deserves a Happily Ever After it's him. I personally cannot stand Javier and it just drives me crazy that Ellie is still so very naïve and weak around him. I do think Javier does care for Ellie... but his need for revenge and power will always get in the way. I feel this way because if he truly loved her he would not even consider putting her in harms way. His influence on Ellie is dangerous and no good for her. Ellie needs to be saved... if not for Camden she wouldn't have any hope at all. He is her good compass...
Ellie is such a conflicted character. And, if not for the fact that she has been dealt a lousy deck of cards, I'm not sure I could deal with her bad choices. But, that is where I give due credit to the author... she does a really good job helping us feel Ellie's conflict and so I understand her weaknesses and the bad choices she makes. The blurb at the end of this book really got to me. Her parents are just horrible ugly people. How can you learn to trust anyone when you've been shafted by your own parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book rocks! August 20, 2013
    By Barbie
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It takes a very skillful storyteller to bring a reader down to their knees and then punch them in the gut...kick them when they are down...only to have them screaming and tearing their hair out in the very next chapter. THEN, when you think you have a momentary reprieve, BOOM, smack dab in the kisser!

This is what Karina Halle did to me while I was reading Shooting Scars.

First of all, since I had devoured Sins & Needles and the prequel novella, On Every Street some months previous to reading Shooting Scars, I had very high expectations.
I say that because in a trilogy and/or series, it has been my experience that the story in the second book is more filler.

Shooting Scars is NOT a filler book, people. Let me repeat that so you can clearly understand: NOT A FILLER BOOK. It blows the first one out of the water!!

It's chock full of twists and turns that will have you second guessing every single move and piece of dialogue from each of the characters that I've come to love.

Ahhh, the characters...Ellie, Camden, and Javier.

These three are on a collision course straight to hell. They are all "bad" in some way or another. Which, to me, makes them all the more loveable. Their flaws are what make them real and jump off the page. It's what makes me relate to them. Makes me cheer, cry, scream at my kindle regardless of which "team" I'm on.

And trust me, I did all of those things and more while reading Shooting Scars, and I guarantee that you will too!

    Happy reading:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Effing Amazing Series! August 20, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
If you're looking for a book that has flowers, rainbows, dancing unicorns and a happily ever after, keep looking. If you want gritty, in-your-face, New Adult badassery, then Shooting Scars should be your next read. I lost count at how many times I asked myself, "How does Karina come up with this stuff?". This book is a roller coaster filled with twists and turns. Just as soon as you think you know where it's going and what's going to happen ~ Karina slaps you upside the head with a plot twist you didn't see coming and completely changes course. To say Shooting Scars keeps you on your toes would be an understatement. Prepare to be glued to your kindle.

Shooting Scars is book 2 in The Artists Trilogy series. You'll need to read book 1, Sins & Needles, first. Trust me when I say that book 1 was brilliant and a must read! I read S&N back when I first started getting into reading again and it blew me away. Shooting Scars picks us up where Sins & Needles left us off, mouths dropped wide open and minds blown.

Ellie Watt is the furthest thing from a girly girl. In S&N, Ellie is an absolute ball-buster. Her ruthless persona both scared me and made me root for her. I wasn't sure how she was going to survive emotionally after the events of S&N. What we get in Shooting Scars is an emotionally busted up, vulnerable Ellie with a conscious. Can someone who is as scarred as Ellie is, really be changed for the better? After reading S&N, I wouldn't have put money on Ellie being able to change.

Camden McQueen is still one hell of a tatted up, nerdy glasses wearing, revenge seeking ball of fire! (I think I might have a thing for nerdy glasses on a guy) He is full of regret and rage, a deadly combination.
